2.6 V6 Rocker Gaskets
« on: 16 January 2018, 01:04:39 »

Hello everyone, I've found that the rocker gaskets need replacing on my new miggy, I've looked at the guide on here but it looks way to complicated for a newbie!  :'(

I was wondering if anyone local would be able to assist, as I would much rather pay someone on here then the garage! I am willing to get stuck in, but some assistance would be wonderfull.

Quite happy to supply all the parts, bacon sarnies and tea!  :y

Thanks in advance

Sorry ..... you're a bit far away. If you follow the guide though, it's pretty straight forward. Just don't 9ver tighten the cam cover bolts.

Yes, it is a relatively straight forward job that requires only the basic car mechanics tools and some car DIY knowledge.,

If you follow the excellent guide:
http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=90542.0

and are prepared to be patient and not rush things you will be fine ;)

Dare I mention that most recommend GM Gaskets, and don't forget the small o rings under the rocker cover for bolt seating. :y

If your gonna do it, then fit GM ones else will be doing again  :'(

You've said you'd rather pay someone to do it, but id certainly add one more vote for having a bash yourself.  You really can't muck it up unless you jump up and down on the rocker covers whilst theyre on the ground.   :y
I did mine many moons ago and at a time when I wasn't half as experienced as I am now (and I'd still class myself as average amateur now)

A reasonable knowledge of engine maintenance a definite advantage for omega ownership, and its a really satisfying feeling to open the bonnet and understand what you are looking at. :)

And in terms of complexity - in a nutshell its really...

1. Start at the top and undo everything that's in in your way, stud-by-stud upto and including the rocker covers.
2 Gaskets off, new ones on, dont forget the squidges of black goo.
3 Reassembly reversal of removal, use your torque wrench.

Its honestly no harder than that.   :)

While you’re at it when was the belt last done?

Happy to observe and guide (no cost) but currently in too much pain for much car work

The job is not trivial. I strongly advise you accept James' most generous offer. And while you are about it, it's worth your while cleaning the breathers and changing the cam belt, unless you are sure the cam belt was done recently. If you get all that done in a day you will have done well.

I'm in Camberley, but can't help either sadly. I've not had day off since 3rd Jan, got a mountain of jobs to do at home.

Maybe. But Terry is hardly a novice when it comes to an Omega  ;)

Hi James,

Sorry to hear you are still in pain mate, I'd like to take you up on your kind offer to guide and observe if that's ok?

Not sure when the belt was last done, so I will add that onto the parts list!
