Omega General Help / Re: reversing lights

If yours is a saloon it's quite likely to be in the wrapped loom that connects the body to the boot lid. Nearside at the bend where it flexes. As opposed to the gearbox.

That was my same problem I had. Good luck.  :y We need to keep theses cars on the road for as long as possible before their all gone.. :y

That saves a whole load of problems with the seller trying to sort it out.

Thanks Terry.  :y

Rad arrived without any oil pipe blanking plugs. Can I just leave these open/unbanked or will I have to plug them?

Yes if you buy a radiator that fits both manual and auto there will be blanking plugs where the gearbox cooler pipes attach, just leave these in place. When my V6 radiator cracked[same place as yours has]I bought one off e-bay a Nissens iirc.

Thanks.

Anyone know if this original GM p/n 52463046 / R1150078 will fit my 2.2 manual 2003 please?

Anyone know if all face lift models, automatic and manual all use the same radiator or are they different?
The radiators currently seem to all have the built in cooler regardless of what's fitted to the car, so it doesn't really matter  :y

Basically strip your car down and refit everything in place on the new radiator, including the fittings to attach the condenser and external gearbox cooler as per the original ;)

If I don't have an auto is there blanking screws that are provided with the new rad that I should leave in place when using with a manual gearbox?  Never replaced one before.

There are different two letter codes on them that will give you the partnumber:

Thanks for the link.  :y

Omega General Help / Re: Coolant Tank only stays half full
« on: 27 November 2019, 14:55:46 »
I have filled/topped up my coolant reservoir a few times. I don't know why it always wants to settle down to half full and no warning lights, etc. My gut feeling is that there is perhaps a leak in the plastic but there are no apparent tell tale marks of that.

There are no discernible leaks noted under the car or the driveway.

Any suggestions or thoughts appreciated.

I've had similar for the past few years. I removed the plastic cover that's over the top of the radiator today and there was a small crack in the plastic on the top of the right hand side where the hose from the thermostat connects to the rad. I didn't notice it before because it was a small leak and was hidden by the plastic cover.

I've had the same problem on my Desmond for the past few years. Still can't find out where the leak is. I put a genuine new cap on and it is still the same.  ???

Hope you have better luck with yours Terry.

From memory, the front fan on a desmond does have the two speeds but there's a series resistor that drops some volts for the low speed, being that there aren't 2 motors to put in series.

Will see if I have wiring diagrams on this laptop to confirm...

Confirmed the front fan has only 2 wires.

I've checked all relays off the car and they are all working fine.

I just don't have the high speed on the front fan.

I need to sort this soon because were going on holiday and taking the car.

Can't say as I noticed tbh :-\

Main reason for the parts collection was to fit extra cooling capacity as part of a 2.2 turbo experiment, but chassis rot put paid to the idea...

That would have been an interesting experiment.  8)

Both had one. Wiring in the second one was on my list...

I'm thinking the same.

Wonder if anyone on here ever put a second one in. Looks plug and play.

I wonder why Vauxhall didn't put 2 in the front on the Desmonds like the rest.
I acquired the loom, relays and fan from a V6 to do it all long since disposed of :'(

Both front fans are the same but it's a radiator/oil cooler/condenser out job to fit ;)

A fair bit of messing about then.

Can you remember if the front auxiliary fan had a high speed or did the Desmonds rely on the main fan only, for high speed to cool the condenser down if needed?
