General Car Chat / Senator back fire
« on: 08 May 2015, 22:01:56 »
Right all ive been having a wee problem with my Senny backfiring into the inlet manifold.

The timing is spot on all the leads, coil, plugs etc replaced but it stills does it.

Its a 1986 3.0 cdi

Im thinking along the lines of the valves and valve seats could be burnt out.

It came out of the factory as a unleaded (2 star) engine.

Any suggestions  :-\ :-\

General Discussion Area / had a bad day
« on: 15 January 2014, 22:03:48 »
Well it started off by me pulling out in front of a poor chap this morning with my lorry I just couldn't see him as the truck mirror was in the way and as I approached the junction he stayed in the blind spot. :-[ I got out and apologised and explained what had happened (s**ty DAF truck).
Then I took out a wing mirror of an Audi.
Then I ran the wheel nuts up a Fiat doblo illegally parked and the woman driver phoned the police who then booked her for parking on double yellows and causing an obstruction then we were told to swap details. that was the best part of today.
well hope I have better luck tomorrow.

General Car Chat / ldv engine swap non starter
« on: 15 December 2012, 17:50:02 »
As per title ive swaped the engine on my ldv but the new engine wont fire.
Its the 2.4 duratorq my ldv was a 53 reg and the donner is a 54 reg.
Ive tried putting the ecu and imobiliser pickup at the key from the donner van but the engine wont turn over at all but it turns over ok with the original ecu/imobiliser.
Does the fuel pump need to be re-mapped.
I'm thinking the imobiliser has somthing to do with it as the small red light on the dashboard is flashing like crazy.
just to add Im getting fuel at the injectors

General Car Chat / minibus conversion to motorhome
« on: 29 October 2012, 19:46:49 »
Ive got a bit of a dilema im currently converting a ldv convoy ex 17 seater minibus to a motorhome but what I would like to know are you allowed rear facing passenger seats.
I'm going to re-register it as a motorhome with 4 seats but would VOSA accept rear facing as longs as the proper seats/seat belts are used.
I asked at my local class vii mot station but one guy said forward facing only but the garage owner said as longs as the proper fixing are used the seats can face forward or backwards but not sideways then VOSA must pass the seats/seatbelts before the motorhome is mot'ed and it can get re-classed at the same time to a class iv.
Any help would be greatfull :y

General Car Chat / Almost caught fire
« on: 13 May 2012, 16:31:31 »
I was going to put my sennyA in for it's mot on friday there but disaster struck whilst I was checking the lights.
The engine wasn't running and I had it sitting on the charger whilst checking the lights to find a number plate light out so whilst I changed the bulb I left the side lights on changed the bulb and it worked only to find inside the car full of smoke and the dreaded smell of cooking wires :'( :'( :'(.
So it looks like the dashboard is coming out to find the offending wiring.
Ah well looks like she won't be on the road this year but for a 25yr old these things happen. :( :(
Thank god it wasn't at the mot station when this happened

General Car Chat / Disco won't start
« on: 09 February 2012, 08:04:29 »
Just serviced my disco all the filters and oil change done my usual of filling up fuel filter before re-fitting and the bitch won't start.
There is no power to the fuel pump solinoid, starter or glow plugs(im thinking imobiliser)
Ive got it going via a small re-wire job ;) to fuel pump and starter. The glow plugs are manual heat.
Ah the joys of a landrover ???
any thoughts :y

General Car Chat / started first time.
« on: 16 January 2012, 20:00:20 »
Well got my senny nearly ready for its MOT.
Had a laugh today I was at my unit and my mate ended up loosing a tenner saying that my 'old banger' wouldn't start after sitting for 8 months.
Well put some petrol in it took coil lead off and cranked to built up oil preasure as it's sat for so long and in the mean time my mate tried to get 2 transits started that have been sitting for 3 weeks but being ford they FAILED to start.
So put coil lead back on turned key and away she went purring like a kitten as for the transits they got a jump from the old yin and I got a tenner :D
