Wife & daughter have C1s. The engines are 3cyl 1 litre units made by Toyota & knock out 68bhp. Great around town or on the flat - but don't do going up hills very well!

Lightweight build, don't go any great distance in them - seem to average 60mpg regardless of how driven.

....
I doubt the 2CV 600cc lump would actually move a modern car...

 Six hundred & two  ;)
Yup, it needs those extra 2 ;D

It is possible to squeeze the four cylinder engine from a GS into a 2CV. If you're crazy ;D

How about a 500 cubic inch V8, or would that be overkill? :)

If you get one from a Cadillac Eldorado you would retain the FWD, complete with the engine in front of the gearbox. Some bonnet mods would be necessary, and I doubt the hubs/brakes/suspension/'chassis' would last very ong. 500Nm torque at 2000rpm(that's the lowest number :y ) will break stuff without breaking a sweat.

not to mention the fact it would be insanely suicidal

Is that a euphemism for fun (in a deranged sort of way)? :D

It deffo has the same high-pitched whine, fiestas and the like with three cylinders don't sound like this. Maybe just a Citroen thing  :-\

I think you're right STEMO. They genuinely sound shite and like they're missing  ;D a couple of times I've put plugs in and fired it up and thought "shite, I must've forgot to attach a plug lead". To find I've attached all leads and then remember it's a C1  ;D

I had a new C1 as a courtesy car.. and unsurprisingly driving down the M5 with a fair load in it took it about ten years to reach anywhere near motorway speeds.
