performance
« on: 25 July 2007, 23:57:44 »

i have 2000 year omega with 2.0L 16V engine.
can any1 suggest some cheap ways to boost performance??

i'm thinking about chiptuning. it costs 400 euro.. i should get about +40 HP . turbo is way too expensive for me.

i just love that car, but it could have more power.

Cheapest option is to sell it and buy a 3ltr, instant 80 bhp

Other option is to drop out the engine and fit the turbo engine from a cavalier/ calibra

I very much doubt a chip alone will give 40 bhp no matter how much money you throw at it, 10-12 at best

ok whatever.

hmmm.. 3.0L engine and only 80 bhp ? i have 136 bhp.

look at this page http://www.chiptuning.lv/i.php?id=01&jid=1&rin=24

ok its in other languade, but the main thing is difference between orginal, and chipped.

like 2.5td 130 bhp to 173bhp. 43 bhp more,

if i'd get 25 bhp it would be nice too :)

Instant 80bhp as in 206bhp is 80 more than 136bhp

Turbo diesels are a lot easier to tune than a normally aspirated petrol.

Turn up the boost on the diesel = more power

Courtenay who are one of the 'specialst' tuners in the UK quote less than 10bhp for a full rolling road re-map for the 2ltr petrol engine.

Your choice but i wouldnt waste your money on the chip, unless of course yours is a diesel

Sorry, I know this isn't what you meant, but if not already
- a good service, oil/air, fuel filters, plugs and possibly leads if the've been doused in oil at any point
- thorough clean of the breathers, pipes and ports around the throttle body etc
can really make a world of a difference, and in my view is the first place to start if not sorted to start with.

I don`t believe for a second that you will get 40 Bhp more with just the chip there is  much more involved than just plug and play  i agree with phil sell your 2,0 and get a decent mv6 the difference is unbelievable  :y :y

Agree with everything said. Don't compare chip tuning gains on a TD engine with what can be achieved with a NA engine. Results from a NA engine will be marginal at best, so it's not worth bothering unless you've already got the biggest engine!

I wouldn't bother chipping a 2.0. Just change the car for a V6 instead. Oh, and a V6 would give you 80BHP more, and much better torque spread across the range of engine revs. It's a lot quicker than it appears on paper.

2.5TD gains easy, as the original spec is around 150bhp. Detuned in Omegas to about 120bhp, so instant 30bhp just by running as BMW intended (its a BMW engine). Being turbo, further increases are very easy, at expense of drivability and reliability.

Extra 40bhp from a 2.0l with a new chip, no chance - 5% to 10% max...
