hyundai i10 revs slow to come down
« on: 26 July 2019, 20:04:34 »

Playing around with a 2011 Hyundai i10 1.2  . . .   car drives fine apart from when changing gear the revs seems very slow in coming down as you let off the gas & dip the clutch pedal.

Cannot remember a car I have had ever doing this . . .apart from in the old days when the throttle cable was sticking a bit . This is not the case  . . as throttle comes back to the stop instantly.

Even in neutral the revs come down slowish  . . .but as saidthe cable comes back to the stop no problem.  Guessing that the ECU fueling map is causing  this.

Been googling  and found that Hyundai call this a "feature" to help gear changes  . :o :o :o :o

Some owners even report the revs rising during a gear change  :o :o :o :o :o

Anybody got any thoughts on this problem  & that "feature" explanation from Hyundai ? ::) ::) ::)

Sounds like dangle berries to me

My mother's Focus(with the ghastly 1.0l triple) adds revs as you let the clutch up, even if you're not touching the throttle. Another thing to hate about it.

Thats the problem with us lot driving 18 year old cars  . . .we have not moved with progress . .

the i10 is not adding revs thankfully  . . .but still feels strange to drive.

Gonna take a bit of getting used to with this Hyundai  . . .at the moment SWMBO hates it

It will have a heavy flywheel(just like the Focus, another thing on my list >:( ) to make it feel like there's some torque.

My last astra, 1.4 petrol, would raise the revs slightly as soon as you dipped the clutch. I think they called it anti-stall.

We have things for people who can't drive. They're called buses. ::)

It's the pedal that lets the driver control the car  :y
it's not fitted to all cars though, there was a faulty batch of cars sent out called "automatics"  ;D
sometimes you have to take pot luck and hope the electronic "automatic" will select the gear you want
"automatics" are very complicated but here's a simple diagram  :y

Although you're obviously wrong dtb :P  and autos are the path to true enlightenment-otherwise God would have given us 3 feet to operate the pedals :D-I do like your diagram ;D

Automatics were called "Bumper cars" where I did my apprenticeship. Because they would receive the largest amount of bumps caused by the nut behind the steering :D
What I think is programmed into the ECU of modern cars is to hold the revs for the average amount of time for a gear change to take place. This is due to the drive by wire throttle control being so unresponsive as most F/L Omega drivers would agree with. My 07 Zaf does the same thing with its revs

I'm at a charity event today - Brakkers Beer Festival - with my bestie. His missus has had a couple of i10s, so I will ask them later if its normal.  Hopefully before I'm in a mucking fuddle when I'm doing my bit for charity.

When I first met Mrs Builder ,she had a Hyundai Elantra  :-X
I didn't really drive it ,other than test drives after brake or suspension work etc
It developed clutch clutch slip now and again
I replaced the clutch (twice because i thought i'd got something wrong  ;D  :-[  ::))
I then discovered that Hyundai fitted a valve in the slave cylinder that slowly releases  :o
apparently they put this in because Americans are not familiar with the clutch bite concept  ::)
so the valve slowly releases  >:(
needless to say I took the old slave cylinder apart and found the valve, then modified the new one fitted to the car by removing the valve  ;D
maybe Hyundai are doing similar with newer models  :-\

Interesting; my sister's 2002 Coupe has a very soft release on the clutch pedal which takes me a couple of starts to achieve a decent pull away ithout slipping it too much.

I imagine the valve in the slave cylinder is in quite a few Hyundai models
on the Elantra it was just a case of removing the line and yanking the valve out of the slave union with some long nose pliers then bleed the line
it's probably documented on the interweb
I wonder how many Hyundai get scrapped or have clutches replaced due to a crappy sticking valve that does no need to be there in the first place  ::)

Sadly, other events meant I never made it to the beer festival :(

But I did end up meeting with them yesterday evening.  It holds revs briefly, like most other modern cars, before dropping to about 1500rpm fairly quickly, then slowly dropping to idle.
