Title: When is a misfire not a Misfire
Post by: Markie on 12 September 2007, 11:10:20
Right this old chestnut again :-/

Misfire - solved by dispack change.
Misfire returns 2 weeks later - after a 80mph drive on a motorway that was torrential - this time full breather clean, IACV, new leads, plugs fine....you know the score all usual suspects.

Misfire still there. But not as bad.Been using the misfiring estate to get an idea of cause, gradually its got better though. Seems to be very low revs its worse.

However, sometimes it struggles to start with some 20secnds of cranking and various popping noises from under the bonnet. When it does this you can be sure it hesitates and "misfires" on the outward journey. Crank sensor wouldnt impact once started would it?

This morning though it starts on the button and is silky smooth, no hesitation. Nothing.

So my thougts were that a misfire was a misfire and would pretty much be there. Im starting to think of a fuel problem on this one and move away from plugs, leads, compression, etc... Should add theres no fuel smells, leaks, idle problems or issues over consumption.

Any thoughts people?

Wet dis pack from your drive at 70mph in torrential rain :-/

Nope, new dispack was still bone dry, leads when i removed them were also bone dry but a bit eaten at spark ends - hence replacements.

Plug wells also bone dry...

To get popping noises on starting would suggest timing........Maybe a dodgey cam sensor :-/
I suppose you have no fault codes..

Before I changed my crank sensor I had the slow starting issue, but never the missing though.  It now starts on the button and the EML light extinguishes immediately whereas it would stay illuminated for a short while after the engine had started prior to it being changed.

I would suspect the crank sensor as The Boy has suggested.

I`m not convinced myself but will obviously try anything and all thoughts are of course welcome.. :)

reason for my unconvincing is i didnt think crank sensor would impact it when running and also theres no eml...

I could be wrong - and if i am happy to do a forfeit...( keeping my bo$$ocks though for anyone that remembers Kev)

Boll0cks  >:(

Bleeding thing wont start this morning - good job - in a sense - its parked in street for a change

Just turns over and over and over....yes yes it sounds like crank sensor..problem is i CANT do it where its sitting so i am relint on it being intermittant to get it up the drive and into workshop to paperclip and change crank sensor...

Now i have never experienced crank failure on any omega  :o so i am guessing im going to go back to this later and it will start...?

Opps, that sounded arrogant - not the intention.  It was a tongue in cheek way of saying "never overlook the simple stuff"

;D not arrogant - its factual, i put it further down my list due to the "misfire" and not thinking the crank sensor would prohibit the car when running...

Incidentlly its still not for starting....at all..even hours later
