False low screen wash level message
« on: 29 January 2016, 20:07:36 »

2000 PFL 2.5 petrol manual CDX estate
This car often displays low screen wash level, thought the tank is nearly full. How do I rectify this?

Thanks Al. It looks like a bumper off job. I presume the level sensor will be obvious once the bumper is off, and the float can be removed for cleaning. I kept the bumper and tank from the GL estate I scrapped, but I imagine that had not a level sensor.

Facelift can be done bumper on :y

Sensor is towards the passenger end as you face the car... Black plug with blue clip on it ;)

The level sensor is quite high up - it seems to give a warning when the tank is more than 1/2 full.

I find it really irritating (but on the plus side I have never run out of washer fluid.)

If the grill can be removed without dropping the bumper, then you can get at it readily enough ;)

I don`t think thats a bad thing, the Citroen nemo I use for work has no sensor and runs out with no warning at all, not even a drop of pressure to hint that it`s about to run out.

The pumps are a push fit in rubber grommets.

I assume that the float switch is too.

The pic is for FL.  IIRC, PFL is on the side of the bottle, meaning bumper has to come off (5 min job).

Replacement seems only cure. Generally reliable enough to use a 2nd hand one.

Did my MFL 2.5 V6 CDX with bumper on  :y  Remove grille and sensor on passenger side and pushes into big rubber grommet.  Was a bit of a fiddle and fingers in right place, but definately done with bumper on  ;D  Make sure you put back in the right way up !

New sensor was a few quid  :y, and ways bugged me as it always seemed to have the habit of warning you on the display of "Low Washer Level" just as the last squirt went on the screen !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr >:( >:( >:( >:(
