What a godsend this is! :y
I spotted a 04 Mercedes E320 Estate on Facebook with 117000 miles at £1650 which is very cheap, but I thought it might make a suitable workhorse even if it was a bit scruffy.
I checked the MOT history and saw the mileage discrepancy. It has actually done about 250,000 miles! ::)

Is it for sale in Liverpool? :)

There's a dealer looking for that sort of money for a mint looking one...
When you check the MoT history, it failed the last test spectacularly: the spare wheel well isn't attached to the car, the rear suspension is hanging on by a thread and the front chassis is completely rotted out. The only way to know is by running the check.
Even if you are not mechanically minded, it gives a clear insight into a potential purchase :y

I was just going to suggest you check the seller is the owner, and he has owned it for more than 20 minutes. ::) ::) ;)

MOT checker is a good tool, but an mot is the testers opinion on that one day ,so it's always worth checking the car over before handing over money
Lots of things are not covered by mot like transmission, clutch ,head gasket going ,radio cassette not playing tapes etc ;D

Corrosion is unlikely to improve over time whereas a dodgy bulb might ;)
-
Also a long list of advisories gives you an idea of how the car has been looked after. ;)
-
Just used that on our Corsa.
In 2013 before our ownership, it failed and then passed. On both under mileage it said no odometer!
What on earth does that mean?

not readable due to the back light bulb (behind mileage lcd) blown probably
if the miles before and after tally ,then not a worry , if there is a major difference then ... :-X
-
Miles either side make sense so not worried.
You can read the odometer without background lighting on.

There is a Desmond for sale on Auto Trader. 02 reg in Northampton, MOT runs out today. At the last test there were 9 advisories all citing corrosion. I thought i was in there until i read that. It was up for £1100 at first but now at the bargain price of £950. Very low miles though, 58k.

but you can't read it if the lcd backlight is out / not working ;D
or the black tape over the eml, oil warning lights was too big ;D

Got to admit it is a very useful site for information.

Agree very helpful site, Honest John adds another useful link
The yearly road tax can be checked here, an interesting addition is a date is returned further down the page asking if this is date you aquired the car.
In other words it`s the date the registered keeper aquired it

Really?
I was struggling to find a site recently that would give me the tax rate just from the Reg No. :-\
The DVLA like most I tried need the make, model, variant, engine size, fuel, drivers dick size, etc and frankly are a faff! ::)

It's ad free though...
vehicleenquiry.service.gov.uk/ViewVehicle gives you all the vehicle details including emissions and date of registration... Also confirms that the reg matches the colour and model of the vehicle.

From 1 April 2019 VED, rates for cars, vans and motorcycles will increase in line with RPI.
With an additional kick in the wallet for the most polluting cars >:(
Makes me feel like spitting on all the smug zero rated toss pots out there :P & with my stinking man flu, I`ve been gobbing up some really nasty dockyard oysters :-X
