Steinmetz Supercharger on a 3.0MV6...????
« on: 04 December 2012, 16:39:32 »

Hi all does any body know of anybody running a supercharger on a 3.0/2.5 v6??
i came across this link...
http://www.steinmetz.no/PressRelease.aspx

does anybody know anyone with it fitted?? or the eaton M62??

i know the V6 internals are like toffee if pushed to hard but surly if steinmetz say 0.4bar boost is enough to get neer 300bhp gota be worth a go maybe..??
As my engine has only covered 50k should still be strong enough for some mild tweeking..???

I stand to be corrected, but from other posts I've read on here I'm not sure the engine could take it for long and still survive.Might be fun while it lasts though!

Like the shitty Courtney turbos for the X30XE, I suspect it will fairly quickly shag the bottom end.

from previous discussions its been stated that,  around 250 hp it will be safe.. dont know for how long though..

looking at the omega weight I'm not sure this power will bring enough acceleration..

higher powers will require occasional rebuild.. if I were you , I would try different engines thats built originally for race..

If it was me I would use 350 chev v8 - v6 cost wise would be the same or more But v8 have heaps more torque and sounds better IMO

that's a centrifugal supercharger - basically a belt-driven turbocharger, which explains the poor power graph. Definitely not an Eaton unit.

Omega engine sound up to certainly 300HP if certain precautions are taken regarding coolent temperatures and the oil system.

ide be happy up towards the 250/300bhp mark, i havent the time to break about changing engines, if found a eaton unit that may do the job but it has more than 0.4bar boost so thort it would do more damage than good..
& atmo centrifugal ones are pricy but are kinda bolt on/bolt off if it doesnt work etc...

other option i was looking at was just after the manifolds on the bend of the downpipes before the cats was fitting 2 turbos & running the pipes back forward for the air intake... i know turbos run at best directly/close as poss to the manifold but by running them further back ide have a little bit of lag but hopefully bit extra boost & not enough boost that would damage the engine..??

i mainly wondered if anybody knows of anybody with the steinmetz one fitted..???

if i was going down an engine change route ide just go & buy a 2.0 16v omega & chuck the turbo unit out of a astra/cavy/calibra etc etc in to it atleast it all be kinda simple plug & play...

Steinmetz should have told also that in case of adding extra hp many other parts have to be recalibrated such brakes as complete suspension and exhaust system. Summarized all of these not sure that still worth a go.  ;)

An Eaton M62 would not be large enough, you'd need to go m90 to make reasonable power. the drive and manifold configuration would be significantly different to the centrifugal one from Steinmetz. defininatley not plug and play.

Like any forced-induction setup, in reality. :y
