General Car Chat / Re: Cat scrap value?
« on: 23 October 2023, 14:29:43 »
cats - depends on whether 2.5/3.0 or 2.6/3.2 - the latter are worthless.

The 4 off 2.6/3.2's were tallying up at £350 a year or two ago, problem with Omega cats is the codes are on the covers which inevitably rotted off years ago so scrappies can't be arsed and offer pennies, I do have the original codes written down.... somewhere

I thought the lubed finger was given to all men over 50 as standard NHS procedure.
Can’t say I’ve ever had a man’s finger up mine…

I believe women also carry out the procedure......any better? ;)

Had a few, I can't seem to walk past my GP surgery these days without getting fingered. Big Ghanian GP who had fingers like cumberland sausages  :o and the last was a Polish woman GP who seemed to have lost her wedding ring such was the wiggling and twisting  :'(

Pump and carrier are held in with 3 or 4 plastic "tangs/fingers" that push outwards a little then the assembly pulls up

Omega General Help / Re: Drive shaft differences

Thanks to Omegod, who I bought the DTI drive shafts off. They arrived today, well packaged and protected, the parcel woman struggled with the weight. Now I have only got to work out the lengths, so can fit correct one to passenger side.

Just realised I have another diff which still has the shafts in, pulled the shafts and both measure the same equal length

Omega General Help / Re: 2.2DTi manual gearbox ratios?
« on: 09 November 2022, 15:31:41 »
The  2.5 v6 and 2.6 v6 manuals had an R25 GETRAG box, the 3.0 an R28 and the 3.2 special an R30 box. The R value being safe max torque.

From what I was able to decipher after some research many years ago all the boxes marked R25-28 are identical, the near mythical R28 has shot peened internals so it could take more of a battering. I sold scores of the R25-28 gearbox kits to kit car builders and the like who were putting 350-400 bhp through them and I've never had any feedback regarding problems or request for replacements..... they really are a tough box !

You'd have a hell of a job convincing the dealer it has never been repainted in your ownership, a good buff with G3 then some polish with UV protection will sort it until you part ex it :)

Great guide, Christ those auto boxes are heavy  :o

Those downpipe bolts are a nightmare, I've resorted on occasion to using the smallest Irwin socket on the stud end and wound out the whole stud and nut
