Elite est aerial problem
« on: 23 June 2016, 22:43:36 »

The estate bee sting aerial was broken so i thought remove and get a replacement, well that was the plan.Anyway pulled the rubber bee part off and there was a silver base which went inside the rubber so i got a spanner out to remove it but instead of unscrewing as i thought, it snapped off down to the top of the ball.I assume its kaput now so i will need a new aerial and the bee sting aerial wasn't that great so what can i use? No phone or gps but there is a spoiler!

None of the Omega Estates had a so called 'Bee Sting' aerials fitted from the Factory, so either your terminology is wrong (sorry) or its been messed with in its previous life.

Best to post up some pics so peoples know what the problem is.

Use a spanner to unscrew the pointy silver bit, measure the thread on the now apparent thread on the bottom of it and buy a new whip with the same thread diameter  :y about a tenner from VX :y

Well thats what i thought but the silver bit didn't unscrew it just sheered off,so i'm not sure if it was threaded into the ball which i assume is the prodrive ball

Unscrew the ball and fit a new mast :y

Sounds like threads furbed on top of the ball, so as said lose the ball, screw new whip directly on the base, most VX were similar across all models around that year, except thread size varied.

Why i thought about replacing all, was that rubber base is breaking down and will need replacing or trim it off and use sealant i suppose,as long as it looks ok!

Rubber base is primarily cosmetic... Second seal where it bolts through.

Ah! I didn't know that,i was wondering when it would leak but if there's another seal then i might cut it off and put some mastic around if it will bond?
