Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Re: Head unit or speakers?
« on: 08 July 2017, 00:28:58 »
It may be the loom, my alpine unit looses the rears when I push it back so have to fiddle with it till it works then finally shove it into the dash

Even with the head unit out, they don't work?

No they don't. I don't know how to strip the door down too check the speaker?

You dont say what year your Omega is... that might help...

It does sound like you have speakers or wiring at fault, need to remove the doorcards to check the wiring...

You probably wont have any speakers in the rear shelf or in the rear doors, it all depends on what was installed and the model/year and spec of your Omega....

2001 2.6 cdx.

Had it regassed today. Only 260 recovered, added 1150. Ice cold now. They added a dye, so will keep an eye on it. Currently running low temp, air recycle auto, is that the coolest setting?
In an Omega?

They have ficked up badly.  Thats 20% too much.

I hope not, in this heat😀

Not to worry, it won't take long to leak out!  ;D

there is no rear tweeter .if front drivers tweeter is working then sound must be getting to the door so sounds like bass speaker is u/s or wire come off. same for rear door.i assume left front tweeter ok? .so its probably faulty speakers but you will need door trim off to confirm.rear ones be carefull top strip doesnt tear off door trim when removing. or alternately can you confirm continuity at head unit ?

Yes, left front tweeter is fine. No, I cannot confirm continuity at the head unit. I've got two options, get another ISO lead to convert for a Sony head unit, or get another head unit, OEM or DAB. But I don't want to spend the money on another head unit if the speakers are the problem. Is there a guide to removing door trim front and rear? The top of the trim is lose on both front doors, so I assume, somebody has had them off at some point.  Possibly in relation to the speakers?

Omega General Help / Re: Front Brake Caliper
« on: 06 July 2017, 23:20:10 »
if you are just changing the actual caliper itself and you have an identical one ,then its only a case of removing pads and then the flexi hose (since you will have removed the sliding bolts anyway to remove pads)to be honest and only with my personal experience its not usually the caliper that seizes up (thou there will always be execptions)its usually those sliding pins that seize

Hope you haven't got vented discs? Took a lot of hunting too find one for my rear caliper, which had locked on😀

Mine had 240,000 on the clock when I recently sold it and as far as I know the ATF had never been changed.  ::)

I did top up the ATF  few times over the years if the change got a bit lumpy and I think I had similar issues once or twice where the box seemingly couldn't find a gear and the engine revved up.  :-\  The ATF top up always seemed to smooth the box though.  :y

I got a quote from an autobox specialist once to change the ATF and filters and it was about £280.  :-\  So I topped it up again!  ;D

How do you check and top up the ATF? Mine likes to hold on to second too long sometimes.

The tweeter will be blown, but easy to replace

the rears how ever could be faded out in the  sound settings.

They are not faded out. Left rear fine, right nothing. Not tweeter or bass. Driver's speaker tweeter only, no bass.

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Head unit or speakers?
« on: 06 July 2017, 02:27:16 »
Some idiot fitted an aftermarket Sony unit to my car. I only get sound from the front and rear left speakers and the driver's tweeter. There is nothing from the driver's rear or bass from the driver's speaker. I've checked the wiring and balance, still not joy. What do you think, head unit or speakers blown? To get the oem head unit will cost about £75 from EBay, or a new DAB Sony unit £100. But if the speakers are blown, it's pointless? Any suggestions? Thanks.

I know I can get another external sensor cheap off of EBay, but how easy is it to fit? From what I've read, it sounds like the wiring, could be the problem, not the sensor?

I know I've posted before on this topic, but as I've now changed the cabin filter and I'm having the air con regased. Can I confirm with the external temp reading c/f, Ie its oppsed. The climate control will only work properly when set to either low or high?

Its definitely possible to run without the A/C compressor on, but:

1) its less comfortable as the system can only use fans to (attempt to) cool, so ends up with a lot of noise and hot air. Much like some members ;)

2) it has no drying ability on damper days

3) It isn't actually the recommended (or default) setting.  But the option is there for tree huggers who drive big cars.

Loving point 1😋
4) As we all know, A/C is use or lose. As a minimum, it much be run for at least 20mins every 30 days.

The sunroof/windows is personal preference.  And in the case of the Omega, a tilted sunroof massively helps with airflow.  As I've said in previous threads and this one, I like (in any car) sunroof tilted or open, but windows shut (too noisy for me).  But that's a personal thing, letting a little bit of the outside in.

Arrow should point in towards the dash, technically slightly upwards  ;)

Just checked, that's what I've done😀 The old one was filthy, no idea when it was last changed. Hovered out all the leave and cobwebs, the climate control should hopefully work well now, after the air con is regassed.
