I didn’t even know that they sold JD and coke in a can. I’ve had a bottle of JD, a bottle of Glenmorangie and a bottle of Glenfiddich in my cupboard for years. They were gifts but I don’t drink spirits of any kind, apart from when I’ve got a cold and have hot toddy’s.  :)

I think most of us do, I must have at least a dozen bottles of wines plus Brandy, Southern Comfort, Canadian Club etc. (Must be close to 35/40 bottles some never even opened)

When we were teenagers and I had passed my driving test we used to go to a restaurant in Rotherham and would enjoy a glass of wine or 2, that crept up to just ordering the bottle. :y

Then Lorraine Chase started adverting Campari, took a shine to that.  (Tried it again a few years ago and gone off it comepletely)

Then over the years with Christmas and New Years partys and any other excuse for a piss up, I tried this and that as you do.  ::)

Wine wise I did like Muscadet, but then realised that year was a good vintage.

In the 80's I had a business with odd trading hours (Chippy) and when we shut down after midnight there was nothing on tV in those days.  So would rent a couple of videos, Buy in a bottle of Purnod/Cider and a bottle of blackcurrent, (That was for me - Or a bottle Bicardi and some coke)) Plus 4 cans of Heineken and a 1.5 Ltre bottle for her.

Have enjoyed the odd social drink since then but Alcohol, I tan take it of leave it.
(Thinking back my Colledge days were fun - Out of class and straight to the boozer - Or club for a game of Snooker. 1 lunch was 1 of 2 vomiting sesions that I ever suffered from drinking - the 2nd was my mates fault on his Stag do - but wasnt intentional)

But today I decided to have a JD and coke with lunch.

Only ever tried JD once before at a mates many years ago and quite enjoyed.(With coke)

Generally Whiskey &  Brandy plus others give me heart burn, but whilst doing a shop during the week I saw an offer of it in a can and bought a few.

Christmas may have started early. :y

I have a driend who is the Seurity manager for a company,  When he took the the job on he had a chat to confirm certain questions with the Police.

One of his concerns was CCTV coverage .

He was told that as Camera cover strays across perimeters and boundrys then anyone (Local Companies) can ask to see what the camera covers.  As my mate has home secury he asked the same question about domestic setups regards CCTV.  Same thing applies.

In my case I know of at least 1 neighber that has cameras, so if during a dispute over a missing items not getting sorted there could be CCTV evidence of who took ir.

My Brother and his Girlfriend with an account for another service.  He buys the service, if the service goes up, he haggles it back down, if this idea fails and its cheaper for a "New customer" then it goes in her name,

So with a lot of OOF members like TB haveing a partner that drives and you have a shared policy, then do the sums in your partners name as a "New Customer" and see what you can waggle. :y

Thumbs up to Ebay  today. :y

On the the 23rd of Nov I bought an item for £23. I have had a few of these over the years but this was approx half price (2 in stock) so I bought one. A monday to friday for the next week was given for delivery. So the latest should have been 1st Dec. :y

As there was no delivery with in the time specified I emailed the seller friday night, with no responce by tuesday morning I emailed them again.  In the meantime I looked up the refund proceedure,

Gaining the info I needed there was a tick box indicating that If I need thier help then they could get involved from the 8th Dec.

Woke up this morning to an email stating they have procesed the refund allready :y

My renewal is the 31st Dec

I have the full package with the AA

Breakdown
Home Start
Forward Travel
Plus thier Garage Cover.

Paid £211 after wrangling last year :y

Quote for renewal came through a week ago @ £487ish :-X

Phone call from them today they came down to £395 :-X

They told me this was my 13th year as a Gold member but wont budge on price.

In the end they have offered to price match whatever I get back to them with - How can they price match when they know full well others dont have all the services I require (Garage cover for me)

End resesult is I get the best price for Breakdown, Home start, Relay and Recovery etc and they will match it and then add back on the Garage cover.

If I was a new customer they would be throwing discounts at me to get me as a customer.  Why cant they look after the customers that have stayed so long.

No call outs in 18 months and that was only to them fitting cheap nasty batterys.  So I reckon I deserve a discount like we have a NCD with car insurance.

Any thought on best breakdown service or best comparison sites?

Many Thanks in Advance. :y

General Discussion Area / Caustic Soda
« on: 06 December 2023, 10:54:16 »
There was a thread not so long ago regards removing oil from a drive. (I searched but could not find it)

So today I came accros some Caustic Soda in a container looking a bit worse for wear.  I was going to dump it but decided to look up its uses.  (we used to use it a lot at work (Food Factory) with boiling water to clean the concrete floors.

So Googled it.

CLEANING & SANITIZING (dustbins, kennels, stables, driveways etc) Add 1-2 tablespoons of Caustic Soda per 5 litres of water. Scrub soiled area with solution, then wash down thoroughly with water. Removes oil and soot. PAINT STRIPPING Add 250g Caustic Soda to 1 litre of cold water.

Sorry if it was mentioned in the OP but the bit about the paint stipping was also  interesting.

Rodents are a problem in Spain forcars especially rural properties like ours.

Our VW dealer spotted some very minor gnawing marks and recommended packing spaces with polystyrene from product packaging. Had some reservations and avoided hot areas and moving parts. Took it to a different garage for its next service and they all vanished.

I can just imagine their lunchtime-conversation.

We spend a fortune on bait ( most of which doesnt work or only works when fresh and have a selection of traps……..

I tend to agree. I reckon Jerry mouse noshed 10 times his weight in poison and it seems to have had SFA effect. :-X

He died happy then.  :y

Perusing Autotrader, can't find anything that fits.

Large saloon
RWD
Auto
200+ BHP - for a sub 5yr 25K miles example
40+ mpg capable day to day

I think my choices are:
BMW 7 Series - too many reliability issues, and struggle to fit in budget for a 100k mile example
Merc S class - a remotely acceptable one is 30+ years old.
Lexus (anything) - too narrow/cramped
Kia Stinger - could prove expensive as pattern parts and info hard to get
Infiniti - couldn't live with interior

Any other pearls of wisdom?

Sounds like my shopping list. :y
Mine was based on luxury, comfoft, low mileage and ecconomy.

Decided to wait in the end as a mate has a S350 that may come at a good price at some point, he looks after the cars he buys and the mileage will be low.

Plus waiting the bugdet may get higher. :y
