« on: 22 December 2023, 22:26:09 »
Got the train up to Mr Sereks yesterday drove her back home complete its new found friend, Tin Worm, did not authorise the welding works in the end. Really enjoyed the drive back, even stopped off for a crap donalds but couldn't shake that feeling of its the end of the road for this old girl. I dont have any plans except temporary storage facility until tax runs out then most likely breakers  :( :'(

General Discussion Area / Another bites the dust
« on: 11 December 2023, 21:09:54 »
Time to call it day, shortest ownership of any car in my life time, but a least got to experience as it was then Vauxhalls flagship Elite and to be honest  Ive enjoyed every mile in this 200k+ motor, but alas the cracking drive was no match for the dreaded  tin worm. Having received a call from Serek advising its not worth it. Reluctantly Ive agreed, my heart says one thing but the the head says,Im standing on the edge of a money pit. Problem I have now is do I leave with Serek to get rid, or risk driving her home. MOT expired on the 28th  :-\

Omega General Help / What lies beneath
« on: 18 November 2023, 13:09:03 »
Hi guys, Mot looming at end off month on the old 3.2 Elite barge. I've booked it in for Mot next Saturday locally. There is no way its gonna pass, it needs welding, this is to find out what does need doing. I've removed the rear sill end caps exposing the tin worm that I can see. What is the best method to remove the Sill Covers, I take it those plastic securing fittings are a one time affair, do i have to drill them out, pop them or break them  :-[
I dont want to be faffing around ordering online standard replacement rear springs to lift the the motor off its arse as its on the original now defunct rear suspension. Could someone recommend a motor factor where can buy over the counter
Cheers

Omega General Help / Spring change
« on: 04 September 2023, 14:22:40 »
As Ive recently acquired replacement for my Mv6, in the the form of 3.2 Elite, I notice it no longer has self levelling suspension and sits a tad low for my liking. I have zero experience with these guys, is there a recommended spring set to to give it a bit of lift and in its current form would there be any issues with an M.O.T.
 Cheers

General Car Chat / Insignia Cdti,
« on: 19 August 2023, 10:27:56 »
Hi gents, as a lot of know I had an unfortunate meeting with a central reservation barrier in the old Mv6 recently, although was I adamant about purchasing a another motor, partly due to 21 Peugeot Partner company van, with allowable private use, I now find my eyes straying once again to the Vx range. to be honest chaps the insignia saloon never held any appeal for me, even in Vrx clothing the body shape just doesn't tick any boxes .But the estate, something about it that brings the whole look of the thing altogether, like Baileys and Ice. I have zero experience of soot suckers, never even sat in an Insignia and at at lean 6ft 5in will I struggle for comfort. What are its gremlins or horror stories. Obviously appreciate any info provided, so as not to be wasting anyone's time, Im looking at least going to look at an Vx line Estate, 2 owners, Full service history.. 71k. I suppose I could call up Dr Serek, but he's a busy bunny these days. And rather than Dr google I think real world good or bad reviews isthe way to go
Cheers

General Car Chat / Bye bye, Old Friend
« on: 06 August 2023, 09:18:06 »
Yes my appointment was for tomorrow with Mr Serek, but unfortunately 12.5 years of Mv6 ownership came to an abrupt end yesterday literally 5 mins having just spent hundreds of ££s on 4 x new Bridgestones with less than 1 mile on them. backend went into a slide which i tried desperately to correct, I'm no rally driver, after that it was me and central reservation barrier. Thank God there was no else on the road. the motor is now scrap, interesting the previous tyres where Michelin pilot sport and they never did that..

Omega General Help / Air con question
« on: 02 August 2020, 13:52:18 »
On Thursday I took the motor to Serek to have Hbv replaced. Job done all good. On my journey back down the A1, I decided to stick the temperature in low, which is a pointless exercise as air con is shot and to be honest it's never been on my to do list. But as I switched into low setting there was a brief groan from behind the dash, never heard that before either and to my surprise the air coming from the face vents started cooling, :o  although not ice cold the air con continued to deliver cooling, well to a degree, albeit short lived until I switched back over to high.
How could that be guys ? Judging by the state of the condenser I would thought that the system would be devoid of any gas or the very least gone to increase the hole in the Ozone layer. I'm sure its not my imagination or maybe it was  :-\

Omega General Help / Secondary fan sensor/switch
« on: 22 July 2020, 15:32:22 »
Hi guys, can someone confirm is the connector wiring block to lower fan switch on rad, circular, I can only see the upper fan temperature sensor/switch which is rectangular, I've tested this and all fans are good, I just can't see the lower one as I want to replace both.

Omega General Help / Still Trading
« on: 02 July 2020, 16:48:47 »
Hi Guys, does anyone know if this company is still trading. Rang numerous times no answer.  Sent emails, which come back as failed. Does anyone have their contact details, I'm in Watford I believe they are based in Kidderminster, I just need find out do they stock the parts. Taking a chance and driving up there could be a waste of time.

Omega General Help / Raidiator Switches
« on: 19 June 2020, 10:08:25 »
Does anyone have link for the correct. Febi/ Delphi Radiator primary + secondary thermostatic switches. I either get 2 pole contact for primary and 3 pole for secondary which is correct but not suitable for air con not that I can see where it's located. Where does the secondary live.
My first port of call will be test fans with the very useful maintenance guide, followed by relays..
Cheers.

Omega General Help / Mot Pass + Recommendation
« on: 17 June 2020, 10:41:28 »
Hi Guys, Took the motor to SOS in Huntingdon yesterday for some fettering, first up Mot, Passed with one advisory. Nsr front wheel bearing slight play. Then Serek and the team installed a new Cam belt kit, did a cracking job. So first off guys need recommendations where and what to buy for front bearing hubs, there a bewildering selection online, but £29 for a complete hub, I think not bearings must be made out of tin foil.. I will replace both though.
I also need a fan switch. Although it would be fair to say guys, this issue of the main fan not kicking in until gauge reaches 100+ even then it only appears to be Auxiliary fans that come to life has dogged me from day 1, I've kinda just learned to live with if. I.e. Let fans kick in cool everything down then switch off, which can be a right pain backside. Dr Serek had a look, basically he pulled the loom to the switch and carryed out the link test. Main fan on then all 3 working. I've done this in the past and even fitted a New Euro parts switch which made no difference at all, I even put back the original Vx as it seem to work better. I also installed a fused rocker switch into the cabin as a safety measure linking it to the switch loom albeit crudley. This has not been in use for some time but I'm going to reinstate it. This problem came with the motor 10 years ago and it's still there, the last owner had the car less than a year and sold it maybe like me got like me so p-----d off he got rid.. Serek said replace switch Delphi or Febi. I'll do that but again where and from whom the ones I'm looking at in the pics all seem to have a round terminal block not rectangular.
I really appreciate any input guys, I just want to get to bottom of problem and finally put it to bed  :y
