Almost time.
« on: 18 January 2015, 17:42:26 »

My 2.6 is just about due for its timing belt,it has 89,000 on the clock & was changed December 2010 at the supplying main dealership I bought it from.I have a trusted mechanic who will do the change but I will supply all the parts as I want everything on it to remain genuine vx , I intend getting the water pump & spark plugs changed as well, is there anything else needed ? The car  has never given any problems at all uses no oil between changes & never does short journeys ,now I am semi retired it is used only for work about 6 times a month a total of 330 miles each month

I would use an skf kit, which uses a gates belt, plugs ngk, filters from local factor,so they would be Mann, which are oe supplier. :)

Agreed. No matter how clever he thinks he is, he needs the full cam/crank locking and timing kit

oh dear - have you considered using the assistance of a monkey with ADHD instead?  :y :y

As you say, water pump, the correct locking kit, and Vx bets etc.. you're there - it's good you're doing the plaugs while you're there, too. Worth flexing the HT leads while you're there, if they're 'crunching' they're on their way out.  :)

Has maintained this car from new, has a 2.2 estate himself & wants first offer on my V6  if ever I decide to sell it, currently employed by MB.He is a proper old style mechanic has worked on all my vehicles for the last 15 years or so & is a really helpful guy.

It's ok - we know there are good 'uns and bad 'uns - as with any profession; and as you say an 'old style' mechanic is a good thing - he's not been trained to simply ...

plug car in tech 2 thing - read what name of error thing is on screen - order thing - unscrew the old thing - replace with new thing

...Which is a good.. erm... thing!  :y
