If it's a facelift then you'll need a fascia adaptor, I have a Pioneer MP3 player in mine and had to buy an adaptor to fit it.

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Re: Tailgate Release?
« on: 06 January 2007, 22:22:20 »
THanks Hillper and everyone else and hey Kjon nice to know I'm not the only disabled guy out here  :y

I have been looking at the KC Mobility site, especially as they're local to me being in Batley, and they do a remote opening tailgate for estates, mpvs and hatches but it costs around £1300 and I'm sure with a bit of ingenuity I can do it cheaper.

I've watched a few episodes of "Pimp My Ride" on MTV and keep feeling that something involving one of the linear actuators they use would work.....

Obviously with my limited mobility I'm a bit limited in what I can do/try but I'll keep looking into it and thanks for all the suggestions!!

THanks Tunnie thats what I was thinking.  THere is quite a bit of space in the boot with the chair in (the other reason I chose the estate).

Omegatoy - nice idea, could be worth a try thanks.

THanks for that.  The struts on mine do open it nicely it just needs that initial little bit of movement and then it swings itself upwards smoothly.

There is a local company who do a robotic arm for estates and MPVs to open the tailgate and then bring your wheelchair to the door for you but it costs a fortune and tbh using the roofrails (part of the reason I chose the estate) I can get myself to and from the back of the car so don't need to go the whole hog.

If it's possible to pop the boot using the dash button I reckon something like an old style elctric radio antenna would probably provide enough force to make it open itself.

I guess the main question is would it be possible to fit this release button on a facelift CD estate?  Is it just plug and play or do I need more info first, say from the drivers kick panel?

The "why?" is to make it easier to get my wheelchair out of the boot when I'm parked up.  At the moment I have to drag myself out of the drivers seat , grab the roof rails and drag myself to the boot, than balance using my stick and the rear screen while I reach down and press the button and then hope that the tailgate doesn't smack me or knock me over as it opens and then sit on the rear lip once it's open.  It would be much easier and safer if I could, from the drivers seat, press a button and have the tailgate open, then I just have to get myself there and sit down.

I was thinking some kind of tailgate release and then a hydraulic ram of somekind to push it upwards.

Just wondering I've seen on some models there is a button on the dash to allow the boot to be opened from inside the car.

Would it be possible to fit this to an estate and make the tailgate open from inside the car at all?

I've been searching but can't find any info on whether it's possible or not.

Many thanks!!

Not sure if it helps but the air vent dials on my 2000 CD estate are illuminated.....

In my experience with the Vectras and with the symptoms you describe it does sound as others have said already as though the alternator is gone - if it's overcharging it will drain the cells in the battery of liquid and fry the battery and can also melt parts of the wiring loom.

Better fixed asap due to the damage that can be caused - on my 1st Vectra when it happened it ended up costing over £300 to repair as the main engine wiring loom had melted and the battery had dried up.

To my mind Irmscher is the best kit you can get for a Vaux, my Vectra I had before the Omega was fully Irmscher kitted.

There's a LMF in KLeicester that do mail order - Steve who runs it is a sound guy and a Vaux nut himself and he makes sure customers are happy.

They're at www.lmfvauxhall.com

Welcome to the site Dan :)

I'm pleased you have surcome to the Omega :), though unhappy to hear the reasons why :(

Ah well no point moaning about it, just gotta get on with it.
I've always like the Omega but then I'm a fan of big cars in general and it's certainly a big car.
