Child Seat Detector
« on: 02 December 2018, 19:34:45 »

Can this be disabled? Can't find a definitive answer.

Airbag light keeps illuminating and the code refers to this module. Can the appropriate connection be removed and the CSD option be disabled? Plenty of Elites around without the CSD so surely there must be a programming option on the ECU?

Really don't want to get into dismantling the seat on this car if I can help it.

Compare airbag ecu part numbers across your fleet...

If all the same then hopefully a simple tech 2 job. If no, then you might need to Improvise.

Not sure when, but if I get a chance I'll see if the wiring diagrams shed any light on it...

What year is it?

Registration is 02.

I know you can fit a seat with a CSD to a vehicle that isn't set up for it and it works without issue  :-\

Hello!
I had a similar problem with the child seat detector, which turned the airbag light on. I was under the impression, that airbag controller can be programmed only once, so I just got another from a car without this option. I did receive one without the person detection option however, so had to disconnect the big yellow plug under the passenger seat.
The airbag controller lives under the armrest, takes some torx screws to get it out.

I don't think it can be programmed out once enabled.

SRS ECUs must be two-a-penny now. Just pop anther in (after removing cable for the sensor.

Not sure a second hand one is a good idea if they are impact sensitive  :-\

Might take the back plastic panel off the seat and see where the sensor is.. Might be a case of a crumbling connector if I'm lucky - this car has 205k on it (although the passenger seat won't have been occupied for all those miles) so has seen a bit of use.... and every passenger seems to want it setup differently!!

Main connector block at sill has been checked.

If all fails I'll have to look at an SRS ECU. MOT not till April so got a bit of time.... I'll Just reset the code for now.

Its a seat strip down :(

Get a SRS from a breaker, non elite, as many later elites had this option included as standard.

OK, no coding required? Just disconnect battery, swap out unit, reconnect battery...

Changing all four airbags should only take a couple of hours...  ;D

Add an hour for the pretensions as the seats need to come out...

Hi Rob can you tell me more? Is 0v what the Ecu is expecting to see from a healthy CSD or is the 0v telling the Ecu that there is no CSD?

0v= Ground=Earth=brown wire, but double check...

That earth point is adjacent to the srs ecu, iirc, so should be obvious enough  ;)

Aye, been around that location previously in other cars wiring in various extra switches so seen the bond point.

Thanks, I'm guessing it's the twenty pin yellow plug with three wires connected - Or/Bl, Or and Blk.

Thanks, unplugged that one as it was the obvious one and reconnected the battery. All good now  :y

Took the opportunity to hoover out all the dust and dirt that had accumulated as well.

Replacement SRS Ecu fitted and all good so far :)

Thanks all for your help.  :y

OK, continuous wires, seat plug not specified in diagrams...

Small* plug, RdWh/BnWh is the side airbag.

Small* plug, Gn/BnGn is the pretensioner.

Flat yellow plug is the CSD one, Pin 4 Bk direct from Fuse 29, Pin 14 Bn to Ground at Tunnel via Pin 25 on X1, Pin 16 YeGn to airbag ECU via Pin 50 on X1.

X1 being the sodding great plug behind the kick panel.

*I thought these plugs were yellow, but summat makes me think that they are grey with yellow tabs and pink or orange locks.

Lol, yes, one plug grey, one yellow, two pin design. Assumed they would be what you describe above.  :y
