What shall I do with my 2.2?
« on: 17 April 2014, 16:48:43 »

I have a late 53 plate 2.2 petrol CD with 96k miles.

I parked it up and sorned it because it had early symptoms of HG failure.

This car has LPG - a nice stag 4Eco kit with 100l tank and is MOT until November

Since I laid it up 3 or 4 months ago, I've not even started it, instead driving my 3.0 project, which is a roadworthy work in progress!

I WILL be fixing the HG as its a cheap / easy / quick ish repair and nothing more than a paperweight without!

The options as I see them:

1) fix at my leisure and clean up. We are doing a 3 week long road trip to Spain in sept and the gas would be a financial godsend

2) fix and remove the LPG. Sell as standard car. Use LPG parts to convert the 3.0

3) sell complete with LPG. May not increase value much though as not yet certified / on database.

No rush, just wondering what you'd do? :y

Fix it up and keep it, the LPG parts, very little will fit the 3.0

The ECU won't work, the injectors, not enough, not really good idea mixing.

Vap won't be up to the job, also is tank multi-hole? Doubt it for 4 pot. So not really worth moving parts.

Pence per mile on my 2.2 is ~12p, so effective 50mpg easy all day long  :y

Thing is, I much prefer my 3.0. My commute after June will be 7 miles so fuel not an issue.

Tank is 4 hole, so £300 alone in rear end kit. I could potentially buy another stag 4 kit and run one kit per bank on the v6 :y

If you fix up the Desmond for your holiday and then sell it when you get back, wouldn't that fund the kit for your V6?  :-\

Be interesting running 2x Stag 4pot kits on a 6pot engine? Won't the software not like running each kit on 3?

The software is stupid, the gas ecu's wouldn't know each other we're there :)

All the gas ecu does is copy a signal and fire a gas injector :y

Ask me if i would add radweld to a keeper, then the answer would be no, but as the car only had months to be useful me.....would you goto the expense of a new rad?
