So you don't see spending £25 as a saving? Or, an investment, so to speak. ...?

Didn't know it was compulsory - surely its up to the individual ::)

As it happens I have TC, and must admit its saved me a lot of dosh over the years - and my dealer is only 11 miles away from me

With the amount of dealers dropping out it will soon be pointless. I'm in Southampton and last year had 3 dealers that took trade club. The nearest now is in Poole then  Aldershot, nether deliver to Southampton.  So I can drive  for  a hour each way or unfortunately resort to non genuine.
I think access to precipitating dealers is going to be a big reason why people don't bother.
Lee
Ps should add I'm a genuine card holder(not though abs) and  would say if you are lucky to have a precipitating dealer near you then the £25 abs fee is well worth it.

Gone with not bothered :y

Purely because the three dealers I have (relatively) easy access to are prepared to negotiate prices. Sometimes I get upto 20%, sometimes I don't.

Pays to shop around too... I have no issues with importing genuine parts from 3000+ miles away. If it saves me a percentage of the UK retail price in the process, that's great. If any given imported part is cheaper than locally available pattern, then even better imho :y

Buy things in bulk too, helps with negotiating discounts... oil filters are cheap enough individually, but buy a box of ten, and you'll probably save 50%, same with oil/plugs etc...

Not at all. More that some seem obsessed with every/any other option as long as it's not vx. Due to price? That I can understand. But not given tc's existence.

Brake pads. £15
Disc and pad set. £115 (odd)
Oil. £20 litres 10/40 under £50. Less than a single 5ltr can retail.
Speak plugs. £3 each are they?

Etc etc. yet people go out and pay MORE for inferior parts.

Then wonder why trade club is disappearing from dealers in various places.

Don't get me wrong, some stuff is still too expensive even with tc discount. But why not take advantage....?

Use it or loose it. Seems to me.

Except some have already lost tc of course. Sadly. :(

That's doesn't seem entirely fair, to me at least.  Customers are supposed to be in the trade. Car clubs, of which oof is one, as is Abs, are an exception. But fitting the bulk buy approach, in theory.

Tc isn't available to Joe Bloggs anyway. Hence the membership fee, etc....

The reasons that most dealers lost TC comes from the results of a survey sent to TC members about 18 months ago. The results were that people wanted more deliveries and better stock holdings (amongst other things). Thus, dealers had to commit to a certain number of vans and certain stock levels to stay in. Many were unable to withstand the financial burden this imposed.

If anyone wants an ABS membership form, PM me and I can post one out to you.
Shortly, all membership joining and renewals will be on line as the whole website is undergoing a major revamp. Test emails are going out to check for any bugs at this time but no date yet for launch. Those of you who are already members will know of the bit of faff with joining the forum. That will all go with automatic forum access after the activation email confirming details

Good stuff Keith. Needs sorting.

I'd suggest oof members would benefit from your help. Access to tc dealers aside, non of the poll options are reasonable, given the savings on diy servicing.

I've got access via ABS but to be honest it's not much use to me now. All my local dealers seem to have stopped being part of the TC. My nearest one (Frosts in Chichester) wasn't actually listed on the TC website but still offered it until the beginning of the year, but I've just checked with them on Twitter and they've stated they no longer do it.

Nearest one to me now is a 60-70 mile round trip. Which is a real shame as I could do with a few bits and pieces as well as some oil. I've seen GM oil on Ebay for £14.99 for 5ltr with free P&P so might give that a go. Really could do with either a dealer local to me or someone like AndyC to do it by post again.

Really think VX have shot themselves in the foot on this one. Looking at their retailer location map for TC it show next to nothing along the south coast now.

At risk of repeating myself...

Always ask for the best deal on oil whether it's four cans or a 20l drum, and vauxhall or chevrolet. Some of the offers are better than TC :y

But if you go in and simply ask for 5l of gm 10w40 semisynth, then that is what you will get, at £20ish plus Vat ::)

Brendan is good as gold, but his colleague can be a bit of an arse :-X
