No point traffic lights
« on: 13 May 2019, 23:24:21 »

The second grand tour of the year continues.

Today we reached Portpatrick in. Scotland. 2,380 miles

En route we discovered two sets of traffic lights in a village on the A75 between Dumfries and Stranraer that seem to serve no purpose. Not for pedestrians , not for traffic control for a junction.

Our conclusion was that it slowed down the traffic. Maybe so but an own goal creating more emission pollution as the traffic stopped twice. Most odd.

Anyone else seen them or the same elsewhere in the country?

I frequently get stopped at traffic lights on my way to work at half 6 on a Sat & Sun morning when there's next to no other traffic on the road .... the car in front goes through a green light & unless I'm directly behind it, then I know the lights will have changed to red by the time I get there.

There's a couple of sets on a newly 50 stretch of the A264 dual carriageway which go red if you approach at anything much over 60 :-X

Yes they're annoying, but they are preferable to points...

No odd traffic lights but what does seem to be fashionable round here are the traffic calming chicanes, where they block one side of the carriageway and the other side has right of way.  ::)

Not sure they calm the traffic as the boy racers enjoy whizzing through them when it's quiet and when it's busy they just cause congestion and..... emissions!  ::)

Those traffic lights are for slowing the tangs down when going or coming from the boat, just keep ya elbows in, because when Mr tang has the 730 fully lit, anything less than 100kmh is tooo slow. :D

Mmmm , I'd be cautious on your return as you're not far from Sawney Beans old hunting ground and their all " close knit " in South Ayrshire /Dumfries ......
Those two sets of traffic lights could be a trap. :)
