Diff bolts
« on: 13 May 2012, 14:41:42 »

On the diff 3 bolts hold the damper to the drivers side of the diff.

On my "old" diff these were T20 headed bolts

On the replacement diff the thread is different to these, the thread is the same as the propshaft to diff input shaft bolts.

I'm after 3 of the bolts that are the same thread as the propshaft bolts that attached the diff to the damper... no idea what head they are ..

Hope that makes some sort of sense !!!   :)

Yeah, they changed them around face lifting for some reason. Made them bigger. All I did was drill out the carrier holes and fit Nissan 200sx diff bolts as Vauxhall don't seem to do them (or do but you need 50 from Germany or something, I can't remember!)

Do you know if the older, smaller ones are hex head or torx head ??? Might be an easy way of telling the difference as the "large" ones are T20 torx.

Same as these but with a full thread.  Thread length is app. 50mm. Thread is exactly same as prop bolts to diff

I was in the local stealer this AM for my cambelt kit, and they can get the correct bolts, £1.69 ea +VAT. I think Nige needs the earlier bolts (11097681) which went up to 2001. :y

Diff you have now was 2001 (Y) Nige so reckon it`s a bit hit & miss when the actual changeover was :-\

Well, if no joy at stealers, I have a set of the older ones here - they're an E14 Torx head.

If you ask for my friend Darren, assuming its Skurrays at West Swindon, he will know exactly what you are talking about, as we had a long chat about them today. :y

According to the stealers here, the computor shows nil stock within the UK both at other stealers and depots, hence the requirement to order from Germany. So unless Andy has access to a personal supply chain ........  :(

Worth a call, always found him very helpful. He may order 10 but just charge you for what you need?

AndyC has come up trumps .... yet again .. :)

Identified which bolts I have (seems my car is a 2002 model registered in Dec 2001), and which I need, and can get me 3 fairly easily, although it'll take about 7-10 days.... maybe less.

I'm in no rush, those we put in will hold for a while, as long as the "right" ones are in before I tow to France .. :)

Rob, I still think that it was probably because the diffs were built by different sub-manufacturers....course I have, although extremely rarely, been wrong. ;D ;D ;D
