Hi
I just got home after the car breaking down :(.
I was driving along at about 25 when it just stalled and then wouldn't start. after about 45 min waiting for the AA man to arrive it started first time and then run for about 10 min then stalled again.
Got home after being towed home and he had a look at the car thinking it could be the fuel pump or relay, after about 30 min he thinks there is a intermittent fault in the ECU.
This happened about a month ago but has been fine since till today. Any ideas.

Can confirm taxi al's diagnosis, replace the crank sensor with a gen gm part only, pattern will fail again soon. there is a guide in the maint section on how to do it.

fairly easy, have a read of the guide mate, not sure of the currant price of the crank sensor.

have you done a paper clip test? You'll likely get a code 19 ......... ie crank shaft sensor.

As yours is a 2.5 be aware there are 2 types for this engine . VX dealers often supply the wrong one .

Look in the FAQ section  . .  there is a good write up there  under "Crank sensor variants" that explains the difference  :y :y

as advised by others  . . .Genuine only  for this part  ;)

nothing worse than ordering the part & finding it is incorrect when it arrives

Very much crank sensor - done mine a while ago and no further probs.

Tip: Don't spend a heap of time removing old one - just tie it up out the way. If Haynes manual followed you'll be all day for a 10 minute job !   ;)

yep cut the old plug off and the sensor off as well, leave the old cable in place.

Suffered same symptoms, lucky kept sensor off old engine. As stated 10 minute job, I cut the ends off the old sensor :y

Replaced the sensor today, everything is fine now. when looking at the old one I noticed that the cable had broken down in 2 places exposing the actual copper core.
