Dash/OBD electrics nightmare
« on: 05 August 2016, 11:36:09 »

Hello all I hope there is hope!!
This is my first post ,and i reckon "its a doozey"
I Recently became the custodian of a Silver 2001 2.2dti Omega B 196k ,  Mot 11/16 . The only thing was the steering lock had been broken by the previous owner who had owned the car the last 12yrs ,after the key jammed once too often , since then his wife (money earner) got a company car and he hers so Omega was surplus to family requirements .
After knowing nothing as far as Omegas and all things vauxhall a quick battery jump boost ,a turn or two of the key (well(universal screwdriver)in the  ignition switch )and the car started up ,no Dash lights a wee puff of smoke at the initial firing but appeared good, a wee spurt of acceleration at 2-2.5k revs (is this "the dump Valve?"i read about) got the car back to base all good, a bit sluggish at low revs but ok above the 2.5 point.
The steering lock yes broke , was still interfering with the turn of the wheel they had managed to smash the entire column casing and the steering lock was still protruding upwards into the shaft lock key-way so now it needs steering column n ignition switch, key....... anyhow I removed what remained of the lock and casing off the column ,and  there's an absence of fancy guts in what was once a 3 button key.
The TID display wasn't lit so i stripped it back , instrument cluster out and see what bulbs were "all that was needed"as i had been informed  and discovered the sight attached

Can anyone explain what is being rigged here and can it be straightened out because even tho I've only had the car a month I Like It and think its worth at least an  effort of redemption  , i know i now need diagnostics software  and from what i have read on here the 2.2dtis are a fussy breed and only talk Opel/vauxhall  bitsn bytes , has no one cracked it yet? not that i condone software piracy1 but it will be more than one visit needed to the Software slinging warlock for this seemly aged but healthy paladin and thats starts to mount up.
Any advice welcome

I know it's mainly electrics at issue, but if it helps theres a 2.2DTi in my local scrappy, parts could be acquired if it helps/you figure out what you need  :y
