Petrol V6 returning 36mpg urban cycle
« on: 31 August 2010, 20:06:14 »

Just upgraded my alloys (latest 16" facelift 5 spoke's) and fitted KUHMO ECSTA KH11 tyres (after some elitist comments about running on budgets). So now I have tyre's rated 3rd best in the world, http://www.kumhotire.com/cs/notice/notice_view.jsp?num=3
better than pirelli & bridgestone  ;) Best thing of all, is that my average consumption on the MID has risen from 23-36mpg  :y I'm sure the cataclean & new air filter have helped too  ::)

My 2.0 Vectra diesel had 36 showing on the m.i.d. just before I reset it prior to putting it up for sale. I drove around really carefully for 2 days before it sold and got it to a more reasonable 63!!

I should hope so, it's a little 2.0 diesel  ;)
Mine is 14yr old V6 petrol estate (1.7 tonne) so I'm quite happy with 36mpg round town  :y

Fair point but the Omega was only manufactured until 2003 so not worth splitting hairs  :) Anyway, I aim to please so here's something more recent  http://www.reviewcentre.com/reviews101689.html  The Porsche 911 owner has said goodbye to his pirelli P6000's  :y

Must be driving really carefully... I can rarely get better than low 20's round town ::) ::)

Mid 30's on a run is easily achievable though which is more important to me :y :y

not really "just like that" but over a few day's since new tyres, air filter, plugs & cataclean. Also stopped using a/c. before you ask... the ECU is perfect & MID is accurate (well factory accurate  ;) ) I'm sure it will drop over time because I live in London and rarely get out of third gear  ::) p.s. I used to drive it hard but more pipe & slippers now  ;D

I have to say, I've just changed DIS-Pack and plugs, had the Exhaust Manifold Gasket replaced (it was leaking badly) and my urban driving figure has leapt from 21.4 to 27.6MPG.

Cant wait to take it on a run and see what it'll do at a steady 80MPH (formerly 34.1MPG)

Something seriously wrong with your TD! Have you tried it with the hand brake off?

I have had 3 TD's, all auto and never got less than mid 30's. On a run 42mpg was quite normal.

As for the OP's 36mpg. Bigger wheels is giving you a false reading. That will effect the speedo too, so you will be under reading speed so watch your cameras.

All maths really. In reality, your MPG will not change. The reading might, but the actual MPG won't. Sorry.

Valid point RonMcB but I made sure I kept the OD the same. i.e. previously 205/65/15 now running on 225/55/16. Same overall diameter = same reading. If you go up on rim size you have to go down on profile  ;) Cheers anyway  :y

205 is that not a bit narrow for the omega?

205's are standard on the V6 pre-facelift 15" rims  ;) some early 4 pots were fitted with 195's mostly the 2.0 8v & 16v Omega's... which really is quite narrow :D if you don't believe me, there's a set of Omega alloy's with 195's fitted, on the bay of E right now... nice upgrade for any early 4 potter's still running on steel rims :y
