Button on seat has never worked
« on: 09 November 2006, 22:29:44 »

Just wondering about the button on my driver seat. When I press it I feel/hear a clunk and bugger all happens!!

51 plate 2.2 CD. Whats it for? Totally stumped here  :-[

Can only assume it adjusts something :-?

Is it the button on the right hand side? Has 2 buttons in one? If so that would be height adjustment. You should have the same on the passenger side...

Thats the button. Clunk from both (push up or down). Same on passenger seat.

Be patient.  It sounds like your seat is at full hight and the clunk confirms power to the switch but it gets stuck in this position.  Keep pressing the lower part and eventually it will move.  When you move it back up just knock it back a tad to prevent it locking up next time.

Off over next 4 days, will rip the rather thing out and test it. Both seats do it, are the motors up to 15 stone?

I don't think Omega's were built for small people & 15 stone should be enough to get the seat moving.

Been pushing the button quite alot to see what it does and all I get is the clunk. Will drop the motor from the seat and see what happens. Worst case I need 2 new motors, best case a shed load of lube required and a gym membership ;D

Had that happen to mine once, the mechanism got stuck fully raised. Took seat out (remembering to disconnect battery to disarm airbags) then wound down a bit with mole grips and WD40. Quick spot of grease and put it all back together.  :y

14.5 stone, mine are fine.  May just be something caught in mech rather than seized motors, so give a clean up and see what happens.

Be careful of side airbags if you have them...

If we're having a weight debate i reckon i could beat you all. 6ft 7 and considerably more than 17st. Oh and my seats go up and down just fine!

Its a lot easier to fix.

Lube the worm drive (easy from behind the seat) and look for the point where it attaches to the rear seat bar. Around this is a plastic cover, remove it and you can then insert a 13mm socket (its tight) on an extension.

This will locate on the end of the worm drive and allow you to turn it and free it off.

Easy!
