Omega 2.5 V6 CD Auto...been sitting for 8 months..
« on: 10 November 2006, 21:05:26 »

:) Hello All. I'm a new fella to this. I have posted a "hello" on the newbies.

I have just bought a '99 2.5 V6 CD Auto from my next door neighbour. It has been standing for approx 8 months as he got a job abroad. It has to my knowledge been well looked after - timing belt and tensioners done at 68000 miles ( 84000 on the clock - straight). It needs a battery and an MOT. What do you suggest I should do to get it ready to drive? I'm thinking Oil and filters, plugs etc.........what is the best oil............I want to give this car a bit of TLC. Also I paid 800 quid. Bargain?

Cheers, safe driving.

Oil and filters (takes around 5.5l of oil, so need more than a 5l can).

Fuel Filter

Pollen filter and air filter.

Clean the scuttle drain when you do pollen filter.

Clean breather before your cam gaskets give up.

That would be a good start ;)

Cheers for that.

Polen filter etc; do I have to buy from vauxhall main dealer? What's the best Oil to use?

I read somewhere earlier about cleaning the scuttle shute ( or whatever you called it ) I'll look back into that.

The breather is the oil breather I assume...................

Out of interest was 800.00 a good price?

Cheers :y

I persoanlly use Vx own semi synth oil - nice and cheap on Trade Club, as are oil filters...

Breathers include the black plastic bit on top of plenum, and the 4 pipes at back etc. Plenty of info on this site on how to do it...

£800 does sound like a very reasonable price for S reg with 68k on clock :y

It's going in for an MOT on Monday. Do they check brake pads for wear?

I had 4 brand new tyres thrown in too...........I'll certainly check for cracking - what and where is bad?

Loads of questions.............

Thank's to you all. :D

MOT check brakes work, not how worn pads are...

MOt tests brakes for ability to stop the car - never had a fail for wear.

Have a look in the Maintenance Guides for lots of How To's including cleaning the breathers.

Keep asking q's the guys love to help.   [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif]

68000 miles was when Cam and tensioners were done ( is that the same timing belts.....I assume it is? )

It has done 84000 miles. Still a good price?

I would like to get the odd rust spots done too - n/s rear wheel arch and o/f side pass door, only the odd small bubble. Any where good in South East London?

He did say that on a cold morning it sometimes makes a faint tappet noise for about 5 minutes, then it goes once warmed up. I have looked around the forum but I get a little confused. What is this, is it bad, is it something to do with the tappets being hydraulic.

Why am I not down the Pub? Madness..........but I like my car!

There is a possibility that the tapping could be exhaust gasket...

I'll whip the wheels off tomorrow and check the pads.

Thank you all once again for your advice. I will have to update my tool box but I think I'm going to enjoy this omega business................as long as it's not omega bucks!!!

Yes, I read that earlier somewhere. Would that be on the manifold end - I assume so because of location of noise. Could I live with it, or is it something that should be done, how would I check and is easy to do...? I keep going off to the maintenance forum but it's easier to actually 'talk' to someone about it.  :'( ;D
