Minor Gremlins Part 1
« on: 12 November 2006, 22:42:14 »

Hi everyone, first few gremlins that need fixing, all of which are electrical.

Number 1(the most important):
I have an intermittent radiator fan fault.  Doesn't always come/stay on when ignition is switched off, and sometimes doesnt come on in heavy traffic.  I'm thinking either faulty thermostat or some dodgy wire somewhere.  Tried pulling off and cleaning and reattched  the 2 sensors attatched to it, the one under the big radiator hose and the one under under the black round thing that sits above the fan.  Anyother ideas??  The fan on the ECU box doesnt come on either.   Fan works fine when it does work.

Number 2:
My MID range calculator doesnt reduce with the tank level, it always assumes tank is full.  I dont think this MID is origonal to the car as it insists I have an auto box fault, but I dont have an auto.

Number 3:
Where teh hell is my aerial?  I have no airial on the car, not even a mount for one and no holes in the roof where there ever was one.  Its the original stereo with 6 cd changer, where would the wiring come out normally?  I dont to start taking things apart before I know where to look.  The aerial lead is still plugged in to the head, where would the other end be??

More minor faults to come soon..

Thanks in advance

On later models, the radio aerial is incorporated into the rear windscreen for the saloon, or as a flexible short roof antenna for the estate. Not sure about M-Reg though.

MID needs resetting by Tech 2 ( i think ). The Boy is your man for that one.

Rad fan Switch is top of rad by battery, think thats the one your describing under hose, might have a dodgy switch, not uncommon. Try a new switch first? 21 quid + vat from dealer.

Might be a dodgy fuse connection for the fans...there's a diagram of the under bonnet fusebox in maintenance guides

Look at the pattern of heater wires in the rear screen, if there are two vertical wires a little way in from each side then the rear window is your aerial.

P reg CDX - no satnav, & aerial is in rear window demister. I have a fully tested switch if you want it, I also have a good fan but would suggest trying your direct from the battery first, also check all fuses.

1) Flush the coolant system a couple of times, then change the rad switch. About £20.

2) Press and hold S and R on wiper stalk until you get 3 sets of numbers, and post them back. Its possible you have a 2.0l MID on your v6 engine, in which case it needs reprogramming...  ..see http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1161364514
