Weird A/C
« on: 07 August 2009, 09:00:34 »

Guys,

I got a weird situation here. My air conditioning stopped working suddenly. When I select 16 C or any other temperature setting on the climate control panel (outside temp is about 43 C), there is no cooling whatsoever. However, if I select the Lo setting, the a/c works fine. Anyone would know what would be happening?  :-/

does your car's outside temp sensor report the correct temperature?

and on the sampling fan vent, will the fan inside hold a tiny piece of tissue paper onto the vent?

Well, Jimbob, thing is that my car's outside temperature sensor may be knackered or may be dislodged due to a small argument with the pavement around a week ago. However, the a/c was still working fine after that. Currently my car is reporting the outside temperature a "F degrees C).

Sampling fan vent? what the heck is that mate??  :-/

Any other ideas JB? Oh, and yes, before anyone asks, I have reset my climate control maybe 10 times already, and this has not change anything

the F means fault, and thats why its not working.

If you car doesnt know how hot it is, it doesnt know how to cool it.

except LO, which overrides everything to full blast.

Fix the sensor issue and all will be well  :y

fyi there is a small vent on the front of the ac panel, there is a fan behind this that draws air in so it knows the inside temp.

if this fails, its another possible cause for incorrect cooling / heating.

not gonna be the root cause in this instance though  :y

Oh, right! That's very interesting JB. Now, I heard that this sensor is somewhere behind the front bumper in facelifts. Question is - how do I remove the front bumper (it's the Irmscher front bumper actually) to check out the sensor.

Yeps, I found it in the car and I stuck a small square piece of tissue paper which stays there as there is a kind of suction ...  ;)

Ziad, on the facelift take the grill off and look straight down. The sensor is mounted in the centre of the front bumper near the bottom :y

Thanks mate. I'll have a peek there  :y Could you confirm if it's in the same location for an front Irmscher bumpers as it would be for the normal facelift front bumper?

AFAIK it is the same on all variations of front bumpers.

The grille's fixed to the bonnet on facelift cars! :-?

There was a picture on here somewhere already, but IIRC it's right in the middle on the lower edge of the bumper - viewed through the gap where your grille would be if the bonnet was shut!  ;)

OK, I found the external temperature sensor. all of this is fine, but I think it's knackered. Does it need to be attached for it to send the outside temperature or should it say the temperature even if the sensor is not attached?

You can sellotape it to your bumper if you want .... but the sensor needs to actually work.  ;)  ;) :y

break then! it's knackered i think as it does not send out the external temp. It's still F degrees C after I disconnected and reconnected the damned thing! Need to see if the stealers here carry them!  :-/

they are the same for most vaux / opel cars, and only £6-7 so would have thought you would get one easily enough.

Well, that ain't the problem JB. The problem is that i'm here in Bahrain, and Opel / Vauxhall parts are a PITA go get hold of. I may order one online if they are available on fleabay. You got a part number for that external temp sender?  :-/

Already ordered one online, and it's expected to reach me in about a week. Anyway, as a temporary solution, I've fooled the car in believing the sensor is working by connecting a home external temperature sensor to it. Anyway, it works, but does not give the correct temperature (gives a value of about 7 C below the current temp) , and this got the a/c working again  :y

Just waiting till the correct sensor arrives so it can work as it should
