The Site has been booked again for the first weekend of September, Friday 4th & Saturday 5th.
This family site is lovely and we have been there and enjoyed it for the last two years.
The Site accepts both Caravans & Tents.
Price per pitch is £16 per night for both Tents or Caravans, a deposit of a £10 cheque will be collected by myself. I will then collect the remainder myself when everyone is there and set up.
I have sorted with the Owner that all bookings will go through me for this weekend, NOT people booking themselves over the phone. Sorry about this but it caused alot of confusion last year.
If you are wanting to go for a week like some members did last year, please will you contact the site.
As soon as I recieve deposits I will make a "Confirmed List" as a separate thread.
So if you fancy going please add your names to the list below.

There was confusion last year.......
What should have happened is that I collect the cheques like last year. When you arrive just go to the reception just to confirm your are with the OOF Party. I would then later when people are set up collect their money and pay in one hit.

Four people to a pitch would still be £16 per night. I think there is an additional charge of £5 per person over that.
So Timbuk Towers think we had 5 people in, I had to pay an extra £5 per night... :)

Came in handy at the EA meet last year for microwaving kiddie milk and boiling the kettle to keep us in hot drinks (in the morning)and also provided shelter and light in the pouring rain :y :y :y

Although I've not been to the Newent meet I can assure you that it is anything you want it to be :y :y :y There will be a lot of people working on cars in various ways but there'll also be people just socialising! I'm hoping not to need to do much in the way of work on my car but may well lend a hand elsewhere. At the East Anglia meet last year I didn't do anything to my car but changed wishbones, looked over a LPG installation and helped with some wiring, assisted by a few beers and a good laugh :y :y :y
As for new members... Yep, come along! I was new last year and Newent will be the first of the big meets I've attended. The EA mini-meet last year was enough to convince SWMBO that she can have a good laugh with the ladies and she's looking forward to it :y :y :y

It's usually a pretty fun weekend meeting some new and old faces, BBQ's, a few jobs on cars and plenty of drinking and talking bo11ocks in the evening. ::) [smiley=beer.gif]. Anyone can come, in fact the more the merrier! :y

We may have a problem!! The wife is secretary for the village fair and is doing a lot of the organising and, yes you've guessed it, is the same weekend as Newent!! How she forgot this when I asked before booking I don't know :o :o :o
Anyway, she's got a meeting next month and going to get the feeling then as to if she feels she needs to be here. Should be OK as she is predominantly organising and most of that is delegating the jobs to other people. Hopefully the rest of the team will be confident enough to do the actual day without her :y :y :y

I'd say about 20-25 turned up, despite the appualling weather conditions - a few got diverted the long way round due to flash floods. I went through a bloody enormous 'puddle' down some poxy lane nearby (entered wrong address in satnav ::)), thought I'd overcooked it a bit ::)

the biggest tent i ever had was a 12 berth and that was massive it used to take just over 2 pitches even more if the guide ropes was set out right
had to get rid of that and get a smaller 1 as used to cost a bomb as we was always charged shed loads for a weekend anywhere
used to take about an hour to put up

Nick V6 - you really just need enough to sleep with, ie canvas, sleeping stuff. Bring your own grub, throw it on bob.dents bbq (actually, throw it at bob.dent, he's chief chef ;D), grab a tinny, and talk 'dangle berries' all night :y. Everyone congregates around bob's warm bbq all evening.
There's usually a gas ring out and about somewhere to boil a kettle for a cuppa, or if like me you can't get up before first cup, bring a flask ;D
I think there is a shop in the town (about 1m), so you should be OK without fridge/coolbag.
Your problem will be breakie and lunch. Few options - some members tend to gather into small groups for breakie, for eg, traditionally, Me/Mrs TB, Jimbob/Ljay, MDTM/Mrs DTM, and the Zoks, so you could ask around if you think it would be an idea for other's to group up for a bit of group cooking. Or I believe there is a microwave onsite. Or nip out to a cafe (not sure if there is one around). Thats all assuming you have cook breakfasts!
I have bits and bobs of spare camping bits, but no room in car. If we could get the useless student to come along, I could get him to bring stuff for you ;D
Whatever, you are with friends (even if mostly complete strangers ;D), as long as you have the basics, you'll be fine :y

There will be no problems with microwave oven/traditional oven/ 'leccy charging points/ kettle boiling .. and even small stuff (medicines etc ) in a fridge ..... the "tin tent" has all the facilities .. and the leccy cold box looks after the beer .. :)

And it has been used as a mobile workshop by MDTM & TB .... "soldering in comfort" ... :)

I won't be doing Newent this year now... I'm doing a sponsored motorbike ride from Lands End to John O' Groats without touching motorways starting Sunday 6th, so I might see some of you heading back if you go along the A49 at all :)

Its a nice little site (could do with more facilities, though never seems to be much of a problem) and a good place to base yourself for Gloucester, Forest of Dean, Ross on Wye and that part of Wales. Stratford, Evesham, Stow on Wold, Burton on the Water and all those other Cotswold places are nearby as well. Obviously, if you want to by Mrs LD something expensive, I could recommend a Jeweller in Witney :-X ;D

Yes Guy, you have paid your deposit which you sent to me, as you said you were going Friday then leaving Sunday.
Anyone who wanted to say longer had to book directly with the site so there was no mix up like last year.
Some people were phoning the site to book up instead of through me for the weekend, which got very confusing when I arrived at the site to find the owners Mum in a right state, then telling me who had paid!!!! I only know a few by their proper names :o
That is why it is being done like this :y

We have 8 families with children coming this year so could do with those Families being in the Family Field, which for those who have been before is where Jaime's Tent is and the Gazebo, where everyone gets together, but on the opposite side against the hedge. At night when the children have gone to bed the parents can still enjoy the night mixing with everyone being able to see the tent, plus only will be 40 feet or so away.
I am sure everyone not taking children will understand this.
I will try to be there around 1pm on the Friday to try and help the Lovely Old Lady so she doesn't get to stressed :)

She has a problem with her alarm, a knackered thermostat and a broken bonnet release handle. She said she can pick up any necessary parts fron VX in Barnstaple if someone might be able to help out with the work. Plenty of barbie food and beer will be provided in return. ;)
Anyway, the Dent gas barbie will be coming of course and looking forward to it. :y

One of those jobs I've always struggled which (the 2 dents on my wing were caused trying to remove top hose :-[).
On 4 pot, dead easy, but v6 can prove tricky. I'm sure if someone has done it a few times, it won't take them more than an hour though :-/

mine could do with cruise sorting, seems this is the most popular upgrade, i cant believe the computer doesnt 'see' the switches and work it out, but then vx couldnt charge it as an optional extra! gotta work sunday so only one night for me, airbed in the boot, sorted a metal tent :y

Most cars need it to be enabled to be honest. From memory, it was something like a £300 factory upgrade. Seems a bit steep when you could buy the car, then immediately go to parts department, slap down £30 for the stalk, then book it in to be enabled (£85 round this way to get cruise enabled at dealers)

50 watts??? limited range??? please stay at least a mile away from me! (rather an unfortunate name, for a good radio, the i-comic e208). aint sure how good the front end of these radios are! but it may be an idea to keep the gathering errr, gathered. used to use the cb with mates worked well. the upgrade was taken a weight off my foot.

it was a great weekend .we all had a good time . mrs pj and i went to carmarthen on sunday morning from newent .we arrived back home at five this evening it rained every day !i think we had our own personnal cloud .it took us five and a half hours to get home .traffic was bad .we still enjoyed ourselves .nice to be home .daz's crocks were please to be back to gether again i bet.once again thanks for a good weekend and thanks to jamie for the quiz. :D :D :y

Mrs TB would make more of a mess of navigating that the daft satnav. In fact, her hopeless map reading is the reason we bought satnavs for all the cars 6 or 7 years ago, in an effort to reduce the in car arguments, and the 'frosty' journeys ;D
