Heater only blowing cold
« on: 09 March 2015, 17:23:25 »

Hi all.

Just got my new Omega on Saturday but only noticed today that the heater only blows cold air.

The temperature gauge show that the engine warms up fine and seems totally normal. Maybe not the thermostat then?

I checked the outside temp reading and it said 10 degrees and that fluctuated slightly as you would expect. Or could the sensor still be faulty.

Any help would be greatly appreciated to stop my old teeth from chattering. ;D

Many thanks. :y

Shot in the dark, and I'm prepared to be corrected but would a faulty HBV not cause this?

Maybe it's the HBV then? Pesky little bleeders they are. ;D

Have a look in the guides... not uncommon for the heater control arms to pop off.

Worth checking they move as they should before stripping all your knuckles off ::)

Kate...have you tried  resetting the heating system motors to make sure that they are all working ok.......I had the same trouble as you and i  put a screw in the air vac pipe that goes to the h.b.v.and found it made a little heat come out...so thinking I had sussed it I  replaced the h.b.v ,,,but it made little difference,,so I then  flushed out the system and the heater matrix was fine...I tried all of the suggestions that I was kindly given but to no avail..I was so fed up with freezing me bits off  that i have just scrapped the motor and bought another omega and now it is toasty  hot and it was well worth the change.. :And also have loads of spares for the new purchase... :y

Is the vac pipe connected to top of hbv? And is it getting vacuum?

Thanks for all the help. :y

I'll have a look at the guides and investigate further. It's horrible to think that this problem could be unfixable. :'(

First thing to try, IMHO, is to turn both sides up to "Hi" and see if you get worm air from either side. That will rule out the outside temperature sensor.

If you get heat one side only, then likely the arm has come off the blending flap for that side, as suggested. If it's cold both sides, then maybe HBV or its' vacuum actuator, or the heater matrix needs flushing, or you're unlucky and both arms have fallen off.  ;D

The HBV should be open with no vacuum applied, so run it with the vac pipe removed from the HBV to see if it heats up then.

You can also remove the trim above the driver's feet by pulling out the 3 circular plastic clips and you'll see 2 silver pipes on the left hand side of the footwell that feed the heater matrix from the bulkhead. See if these are getting hot (too hot to touch). If so, you have coolant flow to the matrix.

It's cold on both sides so I'll try your suggestions. :y

Well I did the matrix flush and followed the guides exactly.

The result is that it still blows cold from the front vents.

However, I just noticed that there is hot air blowing out of the rear vents. ::)

I'm really confused. ???

Reset? Hold off and auto together until the vents start buzzing.
