Car Parts, bits For Sale & Wanted / 18” Sportstars for sale
« on: 04 November 2020, 07:24:55 »
For sale, 18” Omega Sportstars. Call they tyres knackered and if they’re not it’s a bonus.

All need refurbishment, 1 has a dent on the inside rim but tyre still seals.

For the sake of the forum rules - £200 for the set. Buyer collects (although I may be able to deliver for additional)

Willing to consider sensible offers

General Discussion Area / Van Stolen - Sheffield Area
« on: 19 November 2019, 20:40:29 »
Bit of a long shot but can people keep an eye out for one of our vans please? VW Transporter in AFF Livery - LJ16 VVN.

STOLEN IN Sheffield and the tracker & dash cam were disconnected within 2 miles (5 minutes or so) of it being nicked.

There is a reward for it’s safe return.

Thanks in advance.

P.S. I’m well aware that this is likely in a container or being stripped as we speak but worth a try.

General Discussion Area / 24V system charging from 12V source
« on: 26 October 2019, 08:13:12 »
Right guys. I’m after some confirmation how to do this. Some background - I can’t go into too much detail as this is “top secret”!

Looking to fit something that has a 7.2kW draw at 32A. Ideally I want to run this from a 10kW inverter instead of a generator but this needs a 24V input. Firstly, 2 x 100Ah batteries in series provides the 24V feed and should give 3 hours use... Yes?

By my reckoning this is relatively simple but I need someone to confirm - The batteries can be charged individually with split charge relays connected to each battery but the question is does the series link need to be isolated whenever the vehicle is running?

I thought I had this sussed out but have managed to confuse myself over the last few days, possibly because I’ve started overthinking it!

Failing that it looks like I’ll need to come up with another solution...

Any thoughts or advice gratefully received.

General Discussion Area / Is there a market any more?
« on: 01 September 2019, 16:51:41 »
Just a question and in no way a for sale - that will come later if I decide to do it.

I’ve got 2 x 3.2 Elite Estates that are likely to go for scrap. Is there any point in taking stuff off? Any interest in an Irmscher Bodykit for an estate? Or Sportstars?

Wondering whether I can be arsed with stripping anything! :-X ::)

General Car Chat / Strange Question
« on: 29 May 2019, 18:30:21 »
Quick one please guys. Looking to fit Tow bars to our vans for the purpose of using a rigid bar for a safety tow (few hundred yards at most) so no need for trailer boards etc

Heard a rumour that it’s now illegal to fit a tow bar without electrics  :-\. Anyone know if there’s any truth to it please?

They really are a bunch of retards... Ordered on Wednesday at 16:01 (by their clock) paying for 24 hour delivery. Spoke to them immediately (after 10 minutes on hold!) to try and get it shipped that day despite being a minute after the cut-off. I was told that it had been invoiced off by the warehouse 4 minutes previously (bearing in mind is been on hold 10 minutes) otherwise they could have done something. OK... My fault for missing the cut-off.

Just had a message... Delivery Tuesday 28th! Bunch of retards can refund postage as a start... I may even go to a local factor tomorrow and send the whole lot back as I need to get the car fixed  so Mum can go home on Friday - I’m busy all day Wednesday through Friday

Added to my shitlist  >:( >:(

Changing a front wheel bearing on a 206 and the circlip is well and truly stuck in the groove... Any hot tips for removing it?

General Discussion Area / Mrs LD
« on: 26 March 2018, 14:10:40 »
Mrs LD (or Cakey) has had a busy week. Last Monday she went into hospital for a 6-7 hour operation to (hopefully) stop her from all the pain and discomfort of the last few years.

In the end she was in surgery over 10 hours but he did succeed in performing it all laparoscopically (keyhole) and she came home on Friday!

Recovery is slow and steady and she is gradually getting better and getting used to things now.

Sad to see that Dave passed away this morning after a short battle with a chest infection.

A more lovely man is hard to find. Despite his illnesses and disabilities he was generally cheery and fun to be with.

RIP Dave.

General Discussion Area / A bit of a favour to ask
« on: 19 October 2017, 09:47:14 »
A bit cheeky I know, but some colleagues of mine have recently started a campaign to increase the safety of roadside recovery operators. In some countries it is a legal requirement to Slow Down and Move Over when passing broken down vehicles and we are hoping to get some legal position implemented in the UK.

I know we have some roadside/recovery operators here and they may well have heard of this but in just the last few weeks there have been 3 operators killed and several others injured due to accidents with people not paying attention.

Please can we all take a few minutes to read and sign this petition... It may well save many lives, including my own. Thanks in advance.

General Discussion Area / Curry in North Hants/Berks next week?
« on: 13 September 2017, 21:51:08 »
Looks like I'm down at Head Office in Basingstoke for 2 days next week so may be up for a curry Thursday evening... Not sure where I'm staying (not tried arranging it with family yet) so would want to be done at a sensible time.

Just feelers at the moment... It could all change again but any takers?

Can't remember, should the front fans still come on even when there's no gas so no cooling effect? :-\

General Discussion Area / Another Vehicle vs pedestrians
« on: 19 June 2017, 02:21:32 »
As per the title... Finsbury Park this time, Seven Sisters Road. Near the Mosque. I sincerely hope this isn't some stupid, twisted bigot "getting revenge" >:(

Time will tell as someone was arrested at the scene. Poor people... Hope the emergency services succeed in keeping the casualty list small.

General Discussion Area / Poor Mrs LD - Been a tough few weeks
« on: 22 April 2017, 13:19:35 »
So, after our handsome little man was born just under 6 weeks ago we thought the hospital visits were nearly done... How wrong we were ::)

Having been really ill for 12 days she was admitted to hospital on Wednesday 5th. Little did we know that she would be diagnosed with a lifetime condition, start treatment on a drug that requires individual patient funding and spend 2 and a half weeks in hospital!

Finally got her home again yesterday to spend time with her family and bond with her new son, having spent almost half of his life in hospital!

The future is now about changing our diet and lifestyle, although these are not actually controlling factors, to try to reduce future issues.

It's been tough but seeing her back to how she was a couple of years ago after finally getting a diagnosis and treatment. Just a shame it's been so hard to get to this point... From misdiagnosis through failure to attend and bad advice, it's been hard.

Thankfully all is now looking much brighter!
