Just had a dipped beam blow again on the Zafira.
Given the very dark lanes that are my commute, I tend to buy the higher performance, lower life lamps. However this generally means only a years life....
Has anyone tried LED upgrades, how have you got on? They sound brighter and longer lived...but are they actually any good in real life?

I think they need headlight washers if more than 2000 lumens, like xenons. Don't know the actual law and yours may have washers fitted.
But lets see what the experts say.

Fix the root cause, is the headlight or bulb fixing a bit lose?
I use the Phillips Vision+ in my Battlebus, and they've been in the since I first got it.
I would imagine the rules around LED would match that of HIDs, so no (legal) chance of retrofitting to a Zaf-B

No issues I’ve found. Auto lights and 25-30k a lot of that with lights on...
AFL would be great if they weren’t so rare and expensive.
Don’t want to stray too far from legal but would like further illumination. Swap to the omega and the difference is day and night.
Had nightbreakers. Phillips. Currently on ring +130. Not a million miles between any of em, but all an improvement on stock.

Do the auto lights tend to flip on and off a lot? Just wondering if they are doing a lot of cycles?
Might be better to use them on manual and then it's only one cycle per trip?

Not much to be honest, not on most trips anyway.
I think the life I am getting from the high performance bulbs is fairly normal. Its a trade off.

I note that the LED types which I would consider the more trusted have heat sinks at the rear (the Philips has large braiding which sits outside of the lamp).
Given they are circa 20W per lamp and LEDs cant tolerate heat, this is something to watch out for as cheaper ones appear tot omit effective heat management approaches which will result in them failing.

Would LED be straight swap? Or do they need ballast type things and more wiring :-\

I don't really notice the difference between my battlebus (4 yr old Vision+ halogen) and Omega (4yr old Osram HIDs).
With the original bulbs (god knows how old, probably originals), that stay in boot as spares, I'd say the battlebus was typical Vauxhall - ie, just about usable. Just about poor enough that if I had to replace them with a set of £12 a pair uprated bulbs every couple of years, I would.
Obviously, given the age of mine, no automatic lights fortunately.

I find the omega that good in the lanes, I barely use high beams, yet I always want them in the Zafira.
Ive chucked the spare vision plus 130 from the last set I ran in for the moment, given I barely use lights this time of year, so plenty of time to think and research.
