Title: TT
Post by: BazaJT on 03 June 2018, 10:51:29
The first superbike race was a good one.A new lap record was set with a 16min 50sec lap to give a speed of just a smidge over 134.4mph from a standing start :o A flying lap of 135mph looked at one point to be a realistic prospect-perhaps in next Fridays race?Meanwhile today is mad Sunday and the first supersport race and also the [to me] real nutters go.I'm talking of course about the sidercar men.Fancy hanging off a tea tray bolted to a low flying largely unsprung missile with your head or backside brushing the tarmac/walls/kerbs/hedges.They're totally bonkers :D but great to watch :y

I watched this. Utter nutters with balls of steel. The footage looks speeded up but isn't.

One day, a loose dog, or a senile old lady going shopping in her 1973 Morris Marina will cause a nasty accident. :-\

I know there have been calls for it to be banned for years-I think it was early '70s when it lost its GP status as being too dangerous]but the organisers know the risks as do the teams and most importantly the riders, and still they go.It must be one hell of an adrenalin high to race the island at such speeds and while they're willing to go it should be kept. They're all mad as a box of frogs of course, Ian Hutchinson went to the grid on crutches[and was still struggling to walk even with them]and still took a credible part in the race just to "keep his eye in"for when he can return fully fit.

I agree, chair racing is the ultimate. :y

The TT is great to watch but not as exciting as  the Monaco F1 GP last week. ::) ::) ::) ;)

A bloke was jailed last week for wandering around on the course during practise. Then, while riding back the pits after Dan Kneens fatal crash, Steve Mercer had a head on crash with a course car coming from the other direction. He is in a critical condition.  :(
Short circuits arent always safer though. Shakey Byrne (who wins the BSB championship nearly every year) crashed while testing at Snetterton a week or so ago.
He broke his neck in two places, all of his ribs, four vertebrae, sternum, collarbone, various other minor spine fractures and two bruised lungs.  :o
He might not be able to get back out in time to compete for the championship this year.  ::)

Another rider killed today. Adam Lyon, a rookie, crashed in the supersport race.  :(

I don't think there's ever been a TT without at least one fatality. It is always a shame when a rider loses their life and you have to feel for those left behind to mourn, but all the riders know the risks and take them partly I suppose in the belief that it'll happen to "the other guy".Meanwhile in the sidecar race the Birchall brothers broke their own lap record at 117+mph on the opening lap and then took that record to 118+ on lap2-the first "flying"lap.

Ian Hutchinson - Mad as a hatter brave 16 TT race winner, whose injury problems & recoveries to only do it again, puts footballers rolling around on a pitch in 'agony' after slight contact into perspective. :o :o :o

Slightly off topic, but I see that Honda have finally dropped Pedrosa from the works MotoGP team for next year.
It,s always been a mystery to me why he has been there at all tbh.
The two riders they favoured to replace him have already signed for other teams, so unless Lorenzo decides to go to Honda to be humiliated by the other dirty Spaniard - Crasher Crutchlow could actually be in with a chance of  works ride.
If it happens, he will have to get more imaginative with the yet to come chapters in his book of excuses.  ;D

Lorenzo has apparently signed a two year deal today to be paid four million Euros per year, to be humiliated by his fellow countryman.  ::)

Pedrosa though of course a good rider[aren't they all?] has always been a "nearly" man. However he was also heavily backed by Repsol who at the end of the day are the teams main sponsor.

Its probably Repsol money that kept him there, but Marquez also being Spanish probably weakened his position, and he is being replaced by another Spaniard.
I would be surprised if Pedrosa doesn't retire completely. He has had so many injuries over the years, it must be starting to catch up with him I would imagine.
Some people seem to bounce when they fall off, but he breaks something every time he has an off.
Seems like a nice bloke though, unlike Marquez & Lorenzo.  ;)

Pedrosa has always seemed to have the ability to break something as soon as he looked at the tarmac never mind actually hit it.Marquez on the other hand has especially given his riding style seemed to have something of a charmed life in that respect, but surely cannot keep getting away with it.Meanwhile back at the TT a new lap record has been set in every race so far, with the superstock-running treaded tyres as opposed to racing slicks coming in just 3 hundredths slower than the full on race superbike :o

I saw that last night, and almost thought I had heard it wrong ! Slick tyres over a lap off almost 38 miles should cut many many seconds from the lap time.
Makes you wonder why they bother with Superbikes costing hundreds of thousands when something not far off a standard road bike can apparently lap pretty much as fast.  ???

Considering he went wrong on lap 1 and lost a bit of time rejoining he made one hell of a ride to not only catch but also pass[on time at least]the likes of Dunlop-who lets face it is no slouch-to take the win and the lap record was a fantastic achievement. The on board footage is superb showing as it does not only how hard the rear suspension is worked but just how much the riders get bounced about in the saddle.

What a final race :y Not saying who in case others haven't yet seen it,but it was nip and tuck between two riders one faster in the early part of the lap the other faster over the mountain.Last lap and lapped riders came into the reckoning ,yet still a new lap record of 135.4mph was set. :o :o

That senior race was awesome. First year watching it and I'm gutted it's finished.

My mate took me to BSB his year at donnington. Bloody awesome. Though I'll never ride a bike (nor want to) it's great to watch.

Second sidecar race shown last night and yet another lap record set by the Birchall brothers, breaking the record they set in sidecar race 1 at 17mins 59secs it was the first sub 18min lap for a sidecar outfit.Makes you wonder how much faster if at all they can actually get a solo or sidecar outfit round the lap.

Yep......119 MPH for two men a chair and 600cc.

It doesn't seem that long ago the first rider (nut job) broke 120 MPH on the big solo bikes.

When Mcguinness did the 130mph lap some years ago I think most thought that would stand for all time, and here we are now with a 135mph lap.Interesting to hear that he thinks the smaller engine bikes[lighter and not as vicious power wise]give them a little time to see the scenery where the superbikes don't.At anything close to those speeds the last thing I'd be doing is admiring the view :o and if I tried it probably be the last thing I did too :D
