Rear spring?
« on: 09 April 2017, 19:42:24 »

Hi, guys. I've been driving today afternoon trough part of town which has really bad roads, pot holes everywhere, really rubish...When suddenly I heard a loud bang from driver's rear wheel side, like it came from under the car. It could be felt not only heard.
Anyway I suspected backbox but all fine there, then I remembered of rear springs.
Those were replaced two years ago so they shouldn't fail this soon right?
I forgot the spring manufacturer, all I know is they are made in Sweden.

If regularly banging out of potholes, that does give them a good workout.  2yrs is still disappointing, but if your roads are that bad, that's the likely cause

Well, I usually drive on motorway and that's what was strange. I will jack up the car tommorow and see if there's a pig tail missing. Thanks

I went under the car earlier and everything seems ok. Both springs are complete, nothing missing.

Have you heard the noise since?  Is the car sat level and stright all round?

If no sign of anything amis, might have to assume something was through up or the bottom caught on something.

i know they will probably check anyway but make sure backplate / cable return springs are both on when you get car back.they can also cause a rear brake to lock although usually when releasing handbrake but worth a quick check

I almost suggested that. Had the same noise once, and next time I looked at the handbrake shoes it was clear that, on one side, they'd got "quite warm". ::)

And when its driven by a nice, sedate driver such as yourself, Mr KW :o

:P

I guess Mrs KW hadn't been in the car much on the lead-up, acting as speed control ;D
