.....

It's a poor pastiche of the trendsetting series1 XJ6 from 30 years earlier,  ......

Seeing an original Series 1 XJ makes you realise how bloated the latest XJ has become
The black C pillars on the X351 are supposed to make it look smaller.  Obviously my black one, it makes SFA difference :D

All cars are bloated now. Airbags in every orifice, the XJ has airbags under the bonnet, and extra strengthening in the safety cell. It all takes space :(

I have to say, I was a bit disappointed by XJ interior, not as spacious as I thought it would be.

Did not quite live up to the photos.

Yes X350 got the 2.7L diesel and I believe the biggest petrol was the 4.2L in either n/a or supercharged flavours.Jags have not really been that roomy inside hence the need to make the lwb versions of the XJ to give better legroom.

...
compare a mk1 Golf to the current one which is still only an occasional 5 seater despite being much bigger and heavier.  .....

I saw a Grand Tour when Cptn Slow was in a Go-Faster VW Up ..... it was 200kg heavier than an original Golf .... which isn't dissimilar in weight form my Smart Roadster

All the limo saloons, xj, s class, 7 series etc all come in LWB options, to cater for rear seat adults.  I believe in places like the states, these are the most common option, with the Europeans tending to have the largest share of SWB versions.

Us Europeans probably go for the SWB versions because[as you've found out with your SWB]our car parks simply aren't made for the longer ones.

There is a carpark I regularly use in Walsall where my rear bumper is within a Rizla of the wall, but my front wheels are still not within the parking space.
