General Car Chat / Re: 1.6 Zaff

Thats probably a Zafira-C (aka Zafira Tourer).  Tunnie had a couple of them and could probably state what they are like to live with.

I had a Zafira-A, and can't fault its versatility or reliability.  Despite being completely unloved by me and abused, and often left for months on end abandoned in various places, it was doggedly reliable and fairly rust free aside from front subframe that stupidly sits in damp sound deadening all its life.

We actually looked at Zaf-B's to replace it, due to its versatility, but everything around 2012 I looked at were rot boxes underneath, apart from one very cheap one that had zero documentation and I didn't trust the seller.  We were looking at diesels due to economy, and most also had the unmodified M32 gearbox that seems to have reliability issues - all 4 I test drove had the usual telltale signs of the well known bearing failure.

Omega General Help / Re: Plenum chamber needed , 3.2

3 different plenums used on Omegas.

2.6/3.2 - long plenum (no EGR)
2.5 and early 3.0 - short plenum (EGR)
later 3.0 (approx MY98 IIRC) - long plenum (EGR)

Hope that clarifies.

Do need a good bit of power sometimes ALWAYS.
Fixed that for you, student ;D

I know the Zafira is a better load lugger, but a decent sized saloon is needed on longer runs.  And, in fairness, I bet there is little difference in economy on that run, as the silly little 1.4 with its pathetic little turbo is a bit of a gas guzzler when pushed and dragging a full car along.

All 3.2 plenums are the same

But to make up for that, our 20+ year old doorbell failed.  Managed to get a replacement from the local DIY place that had the same screw hole locations.  What's the chances of that?  And change from £8 ;D

Just shows what utter nonsense can be put out, I'd sooner spend a fortnight at any of the islands we visited, than a weekend in any English coastal town , the UK has become a total disgrace. We visited Jamaica in 1979 & it was pretty bad then it is the only place I wouldn't go to now. We felt absolutely safe on every island we visited & were not hassled on any of the beaches.
Not sure it is utter nonsense.  Most Caribbean islands have extremely high crime rates, often around theft and mild assault and muggings. Very often you are advised not to leave the hotel unaccompanied, and only use official tours.

The root cause is often down to poverty rather than greed.  Which is why many of those islands have beaches that are secured from the locals, and discrete but heavy armed security around the hotels.  No matter what excursions you book, you will never get to see the "real" island.  Same goes for other places, like the Red Sea resorts.

I'm sure the lefties will claim similar for our run down towns in the UK, but we know that's utter 'dangle berries'.  We have a welfare state that, rightly or wrongly, keeps our lame and lazy in fags and lotto tickets.

I agree, put donor one back in, and keep it in for a considerable period (months), and if it doesn't cause issues, keep it in.

Generally when a circuit board has suffered water ingress, you can't just dry it.

70
Oh, and the amount of varnish applied to the PCB on the ATWS makes repair probably not worth it.  Esp as you have a working donor, and the codes from that donor :y

71
That's OK then thanks. Got the car passes for both cars, so hopefully that side of things sorted if needed.
Is there a remote (no pun intended!) possibility that the ECU is the problem - just can't see that both keys fobs would loose communication with it, on such a frequent basis..... It did have quite a bit of water getting in around that area down the A pillar under the trim from the leak on the sunroof drain a couple of years ago. I've opened the ECU up, and there's no obvious signs of an issue.
Hopefully getting the keys checked this afternoon :y
I'd say 50:50 TBH.  The FL keys fail with frightening regularity. They are shite!

I've seen the ATWS fail, usually due to water ingress, but nowhere near as common.  The fact both keys failed simultaneously is the only think that makes this a possibility TBH.

I used IPA and went at it gently.  Its a long job that can't be rushed.

Horse boxes doing 30mph in a NS limit zone, and the slow coach driver behind it too afraid to overtake it, causing long tailbacks.
If the equestrian type can afford over £100K for a flash horse box, why can’t they afford a few ratchet straps to secure the horse in the back so they can drive a bit faster.   :)  ::)
nail the horses hoofs to the deck  ;)
Make burgers from the pointless creatures.

Our local riding centre has taken to riding the horses through the housing estate, presumably because the fields are wet.  So every road is now like a dirty farm track, and if your do meet one, due to all the traffic calming, you have no chance to get by.

We're with Scottish power & pay by direct debit which I am in complete control of, never had an issue with them had an email from them this morning saying that their prices have been reduced currently paying £57 per month for gas & electric.
I seem to recall you saying you kept massively in credit with your energy company, which probably explains the low monthly figure.

75
If you use the donor ATWS with the donor fobs, but use the original key blade and transponder from your car, you ill have no issues*

*unless you need new fobs programmed to the car, as they will need the PIN security code from the donor car.  Programming new transponders will still use the PIN security code from your car.
