Mv6 update suspension
« on: 30 December 2018, 11:00:03 »

So did a front end overhall other week on my dad old mv6 now mine.

137k and was on original everything facelift model so ran lsc springs and shocks

Fitted new delphi wishbones
New meyle tie rods
New centre tie bar
Delpi drop links
Febi bilstein top mounts
B4 shock
And eibach springs all around (rear springs fitted 6mm spacer cnc machined so rear not to low)

Car sits well

Fitted 4x new dunlop sport max rt2 tyres
And i aligned it

Camber -1.2
Toe -1mm overall

Car drives spot on handles well lot smoother no jigglyness anymore from loose joints and steering a lot more precise

Its made a vast improvement

But i have one little issue

Low speed or stationary sttering wheel movements i get a groaning or clunk type sound. Doesnt do anything driving around at speed or over speeds bumps

Just off centre wheel turns when stationary or if parking car at sub 10mph situations sounds like something loose but checked all my joints since doing it.

Anyone got any ideas.

Remove the Delphi shit and replace with anything except Firstline :-X

nothing wrong with delphi parts. Delphi is a oem brand and reputable. never had issue with their parts. on any of mine or customers cars hence the use of them.

agree with firstline their fit is poor on most things and also dont last long.

Delphi , meyle, mahle, feb bilstein, victor reinz, gates, all major oem supppliers and their parts are up to OEM standards or better.

They had a global recall for their Omega wishbones... Mine lasted less than a week.

Their drop links are just as bad.

A couple of US based members also had issues with them, which is how I found out about the recall. Circa 2010.

Seeing that you can buy both arms, track rods and droplinks reliably for less than £90, (about what Delphi charge per arm), I saw no reason to replace them like for like.

The Delphi arms caused enough of an issue that I bought a new car for work as the deposit was less than the cost of new arms and tyres, not to mention alignment.

I form my advice based on hard won personal experience rather than simply to be contrary...

Delphi are generally pretty crappy parts nowadays :(.  Another company living on its reputation from 40yrs ago.

Obviously, they are on there now, so you may as well use them.  But when you replace them (if you're really lucky, they might outlive the warranty, but unlikely), pick something better.

a long shot maybe and I am not as technical as the previous guys .....but mine sometimes does that 'groan' and a slight 'cracking' noise at low speed steering use and it was put down to top mounts sticking a tad (or a tad dry).  Anyone else the same?

Could be top mounts to be fair ...

Well they will be left on untill any play in steering appears ..

Drop links even if only last 12months not worried as only a tenner each

Wishbones if do fail i wont be buying another set.. ive kept original vauxhall ones ill rebuild them up new bushes and ball joints..

Drive dramatically better now all been swapped .. like a new car

I was going to say the same .possibly top mounts?
Thing is ,if you can get the car to make the noise when stationary you should be able to find the noise by “feel” have an assistant create the noise and you go and feel / listen to
Top strut mounts ,
Bottom arm ball joint.
Anti roll bar ball joints.
Might as well check track rod ends and steering idler too .
Hopefully if you can create the noise you should be able to find the culprit.

Usually clean and re-grease the top mount bearings when I've done them previously, last time I just bought new ones (Lemforder) from AGP along with Pedders uprated top mounts.

I've found that droplinks are shite from virtually every supplier including VX dealers now, got around 8 months / 30K out of the last GM set and so tried Meyle HD ones a few years back and have them fitted to all three cars now and wouldn't fit anything else to any vehicle now - the daily has done about 90K with them on now and still good (You wait, it'll rattle like a rattlesnake tomorrow!  ;D)

Rubber grease ;D

Fix the cause, not the symptom...

Presumably you checked the bearings before fitting ???

Used to get them from AGP but not sure Jason is still trading.  ???
