Omega General Help / Gear box had a duck fit
« on: 03 May 2014, 15:44:57 »
Just back from Cornwall on the back of a recovery truck yesterday, first time ever. Selector lights flashing, erratic gear change and MCL coming on as well as the one with the spanner on.
Selector switch malfunction diagnosed,  happened last day of Holiday.
Have read the maintenance guide on cleaning and resetting the switch, which I shall start soon, I'm aching all over after the best part of nine hours being bounced around in three different recovery trucks :( :(
My questions are, would this switch being dirty, cause all these malfunctions?
For cleaning the switch does it have to be switch cleaner or will a good blast of Brake and Clutch cleaner be as good?

Just received my road tax £280  :(  Last year fully comp insurance was £284 due end of November.  If it's the same, next years road tax will overtake insurance premium  ???

General Car Chat / Warm up
« on: 23 June 2013, 10:54:04 »
     Hi
What are your thoughts about warming engines up on tick over? I've always thought that it was best to drive away as soon as you start up.  Have been reading about people who will not pull away until engine has reached "80 - 90 degs" before they put engine under load.

General Car Chat / Write Off
« on: 07 January 2013, 14:57:36 »
Had to go down to Chieveley service area on the M4 yesterday, (Sunday). On the way back on the A34 south of Oxford I was overtaken, at speed, by an dark red Omega that looked as though it had been rear ended, didn't realise at first that is was an Omega. Near side tail lights were out and rear wing buckled, boot lid open.
I was on the speed limit, went by me very quick ::) very fast for a damaged car.
No one on here, I hope.

Omega General Help / Half Engine
« on: 19 December 2012, 15:27:05 »
I have a spare Z22XE engine without the head, thinking about stripping and rebuilding, need a little project. Is it possible to find out what mileage it has done using just the engine number? I will have to check again but I think it is younger than the engine in my Omega, covered 100,200, anyway it's about the same age time wise, 10 years.      If feasible, I have plenty of time to take my time :y

My best route from Leicester is via the A43, have had a look at AA road watch who say there are slight delays today,  can any forum members that live near by tell me if it is likely to be worst tomorrow? will change route if needs be, Thanks.

Been ham fisted, need a new cylinder head.   If I buy bare reconditioned head would it be practicable to transfer the cam followers, etc across from the old one.  Sent a PM to Steve at Omegaspareparts, look on ebay only bare heads shown.
