Why is it that they skip 18mm deep sockets in the tool set. I have three different sets and they have 17mm-19mm but no 18mm. Trying to change the shocks on my wife's Medical and need an 18mm deep socket. Have to drive all the way out to Machine mart to get one.

thought to myself "really?" and check - yes, you're right! I am in need of one, they come in for pinch bolts on Omegas as I recall.

I went to have a look at my set, too....17mm, then 19mm! There must be a secret cave somewhere that all of the 18mm sockets hide?

Cheaper sets rarely have 18mm, be it socket sets or spanners etc, as its a less common size.

Talking of deep sockets, I assume one is needed for the handbrake cable, but does anyone know what size it is?

Which is probably why Merc decided to use an 18mm headed bolt for my brake calipers .... just to bl**dy awkward . >:(
They also used a 7mm & a 9mm Allen key for the sliding pins on the calipers too .... WTF has a 9mm Allen key? ???

Its a Metric problem -
M10 Bolts or Nut is 17mm
M12 Bolts or Nut is 19mm
M11 Threaded Bolts or Nuts do exist, which in theory is 18mm, but your really struggle to find them.

Very common on some brands of modern calipers used across multiple marques. I know a lot of PAG cars use them, including Ford, making them very popular.
Having the Jag, I've had to buy these again (having lost my old ones in the garage incident)... ...one of those tools you take no notice of until you need it right here, right now ;D

BMW are idiots sometimes using 7mm Allen slides and sometimes 8mm 😬😬😬😬😬😬
As for deep sockets Sealey do a comprehensive impact set. Only addition being a 36mm required for some hub nuts.

even includes the 11mm so you can windy-gun the bleed nipples on brakes :D ;D
only 1/2 inch drive though , so not strong enough for tyre fitters to windy gun wheel nuts up to the required 1.000.000 N/m :(
I just buy single sockets now to replace the ones i've abused to failure ;D

I find they’re able to comfortably do wheel bolts / nuts up to 500nm 😂😂😂😂😂😂

I wouldn't dare windy gun brake bleed nipples, they are hollow and easily broken off. I always use a T-bar to give an even torque and still use minimum force. If that fails I desist, give the caliper thereabouts a good hammering, and try again.

I'm not a big fan of modern Sealey stuff, and is often much cheaper with a different badge on it.

Sealey's past was always buying import stuff with their own name on it. The difference is that they were one of the first to do that. What you're paying for now is that they have a huge range and dealer network, supplied from the UK with good support which includes decent instructions. That probably doesn't matter too much for basic handtools, but once you step up to specialist kit, welders, electronic gear etc is worth having.

The far east is very superstisious and will not use 13 hence no 13mm head nuts or bolts
My earliest recollection of 18mm being used on cars was on Renault.

I've collected my tools over many many years. I'm currently buying Snap On replacements for the tools I use a lot. As it happens the last set I bought was deep impact sockets 15-32mm, there is certainly an 18mm in there.
Please note, I am buying Snap On as it means present buying for me is easy and I get what I want. I'm also working on the basis that if my son doesn't want to swing the spanners, he'll have a lot monies worth of tools to sell as they don't seem to get cheaper.
