What would happen if you can't get your car MOT tested because of closures?

I have this situation back home in Spain. Both MOTs cancelled by the centre. No appointments till further notice.

My view is that it is the least of folks including the police worries. Of course will that translate into reality? Or will ANPR spot you and nuke your car! It will be a minor consideration in the coming weeks methinks.

that was helpful ....  :-\

If Barry's area is anything like mine, you can drive for 10 months without getting pulled. I genuinely missed a car's MOT for 10 months the other year & I only realised when I came to tax it on-line and it wouldn't let me.

You have a responsibility to ensure continued roadworthiness regardless of test validity ;)

As long as you can prove this, then should be ok ;)

The sensible thing to do would be to say that MOT's will remain valid for 2 years until further notice. After all, AIUI the German equivalent of the MOT - the TUV - lasts 2 years.

Of course, being the sensible thing means it won't happen.

TUV test is way more stringent than our test here

I'm going to have this issue too. I am working on my car this weekend to get it MOT ready. Next week I will try and find a test centre open so I can book it in. I need a MOT by 26/3/20. It's a PITA that they stopped the months grace.

It’s worth noting that your vehicle can be put through an MOT test up to one calendar month prior to its existing certificate expiring.
It would have been nice for them to go a little further here and say, 'If you take your car in one month early and it fails, you have NO MOT. The current certificate is void.'
