years ago when i was a merchant seaman identifying russian ships was easy. Black sea ports - black funnels with hammer & sickle .  White sea including the Baltic sea - white funnels. my wonder is what if Putin wants Rumania & Bulgaria back under russian rule

General Car Chat / Re: car service reminder
« on: 17 January 2022, 11:45:07 »
The car certainly won't know itself that a service has been carried out, but whoever does it (assuming it isn't yourself) will reset the service light using a service reset tool which are basically incorporated in most decent hand held diagnostic devices (code readers). They can also reset the the service interval to the most appropriate for your usage - on a time basis ( fixed servicing), or on a variable type (which is mileage  / time dependant), and can vary on your particular type / style of driving. I don't know whether a DS has this option or whether is purely a fixed duration servicing, ie annually.
it does have a date or a mileage option & the date is always the one that comes firsl, the reminder though seems an hell of a distance away.

on turning on the ignition on this DS I have, it tells me Service is due in 7500 miles. when i do get a service i dont suppose the car is geared up to know its been done ( or does it ) or does it have to be reset by whom ever does the service ?

I did let Evans Halshaw update my satnav in the end . a fixed price £120 . in with the price was a health check of which covered practically everything on the car. the only thing they deemed to be at fault with was the windscreen wipers & advised renewing. also whilst they had my car, in the price of the satnav update was a valet service. so i got it back in a very highly polished state, even the tyres were gleaming.  :y :y

Will require a new memory card from dealer with latest maps or

That wont fix this sadly, as the issue is the base software resetting after short periods of time (probably a memory leak), those are just the map files.  :y
I first got a quote from a DS Dealer & that was £99 to get a diagnosis then the cost on top to fix any issues. they want it for a day & have offered  me a courtesy car for £10 . but appointment is on the 13th. however Evans Halshaw can fit me in on Friday 7th . £20 for diagnostics then if only an update needed £120.

For info, rain and weather has minimal impact on GNSS signals (GPS, Glonass, Baidu, Galileo).

Does the car have a heated screen and/or heat reflective screen screem as this will impact GNSS reception for devices in the car.

When you say the incar nav struggled, was it failing to maintain position or simply could not route the car?
it constantly turned off then after a couple of minutes it came on again showing the DS logo ( as it does on initial start up ) then on to the satnav & asking me if i want to resume navigation - press yes - then continue. Then after a very short time it will go to the DS logo page as if i had just turned the ignition on . and yes it does have heated a screen.  could it just want up dating ??

i travelled down to Hampshire on the early hours of boxing day & although it wasnt my first trip I still need the satnav once i turn off the M3. It was bad weather all the way from Nth Yorks to reaching my destination & first of all the cars navigation packed up then a garmin i have wouldnt work to top it all google maps on my phone wasn,t very good. but in a lot of places the water as i drove through it, the waves i created were above the door windows so the weather i presumed was making sattelite reception to be poor. my cars sat nav is not behaving as it should, it keeps turning itself off & i get the DS logo in its place. it will switch on asking if i want to resume navigation. the cars instruction book has no " Fault check " pages & the dealer wants £99 to do a diagnostic check.  i also have been told to update maps that will take them 3 hrs.
