Omega General Help / Re: Coolant leak????
« on: 08 February 2011, 12:21:01 »
Replaced expansion tank, no leaks etc from there.

Car is still loosing water, no obvious leaks / puddles, oil looks ok, no gunk on oil cap.

I am fresh out of ideas :-/

There is no visible leak, I have white smoke upon start up, but appears to clear when warm.

I have my replacement tank ready to fit this afternoon when engine has cooled down.

Just seems a lot of water to loose to what is a pin hole at the top of my expansion tank?

Omega General Help / Coolant leak????
« on: 06 February 2011, 12:21:18 »
Hi guys,

My 1999 2.0 16v is using considerable amounts of coolant, but I cant find an obvious leak anywhere.

All I can see is a slight (and I mean slight) weaping around the top joint of the expansion tank (just below where the cap screws on)

I have run the car up today from cold, drove it around the block but no evidence of a leak to account for the amount I am loosing. I have monitored this weeping and if I wipe it away, it takes a good 5 mins to build up again. I know I will have to replace the tank, but it does not seem that htis is the main issue, more a red herring?

As an example, topped the water up to the cold line at work, drove home (18mile journey) aprox 12 miles into journey, indicator panel in car is telling me low coolant level.

When I let it cool down, sure as eggs is eggs it is well below the cold line?

Many Thanks

Thanks to all, but special thanks to Lee (welung) for giving me some top tips at 10:45 last night and robbo 249 for his excellent how to guide here on the forum.

All you guys are saviours.

the offending component was removed, and squaked for about a minute and died - now resting in the hedge!!! - only joking - its in the garage where it will probably spend the rest of its days (didnt see much point in putting it back in).

Wires all taped up snug as a bug etc.

Whats a power sounder? does it not run off the car battery?

Where is it and how do I change the batteries?

Omega General Help / Alarm type noise whilst driving
« on: 25 April 2010, 21:50:59 »
Hi guys,

Today on 2 seperate occasions I had an alarm type noise go off whilst I was driving.

It started as one or 2 beeps, then turned into a full alarm type siren noise - but was not overly loud.

The noise stopped almost as soon as it started, lasting aprox 2 mins from the first 'beeps' to the siren noise ended.

The 2 occasions were seperated by the car being parked whilst we were out shopping (happened once when we were on our way out to the shops, then once when we were on our way home).

Hope this isnt some expensive fault in the making.

Omega General Help / Central locking problem
« on: 18 April 2010, 22:51:34 »
Hi guys,

My central locking doesnt open the drivers door when I fire the key at it, but it opens all the rest.

I can lock or unlock all doors manually with the key, and if I press the lock down whilst inside it locks al the doors.

Any ideas

Here goes,
10 flashes pause 1 flash

10 flashes pause 10 flashes

then just keeps repeating.

There was no 12 to start or finish etc.

My wife has just returned with the car, and I have heard for myself the over reving.

It is lmost wildly revving itself up and down between 1000rpm and 2000rpm - but no EMS light.

A far cry from yesterday when it was revving at 500rpm with the EMS light on.

Hi guys,

Bit of an update,

My 'orange light has been coming on whilst idling (at junctions etc) as described earlier - it is when my idling revs drop to about 500rpm (what should I be idling at?).

Now all of a sudden today - my light is not coming on whilst idling, but the engine is racing anywhere between 1000 and 2000 rpm.

I am waiting for the wife to get back with her and will atempt the paperclip test (have finished work early to do it, just to find the Mrs has gone out in her).

Has anyone got any preliminary suspicians ahead of the test?

Also my fuel economy is dire!!!! aprox 22 mpg surely that cant be right (or am i being naive?), I read in the manual that if the orange light comes on, the engine goes into a sort of safe mode where it uses more fuel for whatever reason, is that what has happened to me? does it stay in the 'safe mode' until it is reset or does it come out of 'safe mode' as soon as the light goes out when I pull away?

Also to make life doubley miserable I appear to have an oil leak now which is dripping from loos to be some sort of hexagon nut on the koint between the engine and gearbox (unsure if it is coming from there but is dripping off there).

I really think I have been stitched up with this motor, and am getting deeper into a mess with it!!!!!
