Omega General Help / Coolant leak????

Hi guys,

My 1999 2.0 16v is using considerable amounts of coolant, but I cant find an obvious leak anywhere.

All I can see is a slight (and I mean slight) weaping around the top joint of the expansion tank (just below where the cap screws on)

I have run the car up today from cold, drove it around the block but no evidence of a leak to account for the amount I am loosing. I have monitored this weeping and if I wipe it away, it takes a good 5 mins to build up again. I know I will have to replace the tank, but it does not seem that htis is the main issue, more a red herring?

As an example, topped the water up to the cold line at work, drove home (18mile journey) aprox 12 miles into journey, indicator panel in car is telling me low coolant level.

When I let it cool down, sure as eggs is eggs it is well below the cold line?

Omega General Help / Alarm type noise whilst driving

Hi guys,

Today on 2 seperate occasions I had an alarm type noise go off whilst I was driving.

It started as one or 2 beeps, then turned into a full alarm type siren noise - but was not overly loud.

The noise stopped almost as soon as it started, lasting aprox 2 mins from the first 'beeps' to the siren noise ended.

The 2 occasions were seperated by the car being parked whilst we were out shopping (happened once when we were on our way out to the shops, then once when we were on our way home).

Hope this isnt some expensive fault in the making.

Omega General Help / Central locking problem

Hi guys,

My central locking doesnt open the drivers door when I fire the key at it, but it opens all the rest.

I can lock or unlock all doors manually with the key, and if I press the lock down whilst inside it locks al the doors.

Any ideas

Omega General Help / Orange dash board light (engine shape)

Hi there all,

First of all let me just declare that I am a newb!

I have posted in the newbs section about my 99 'S' 2.0 CD Ecotec, which I have owned for aprox 3 days, have done 150 miles in her, and am now getting the orange engine shaped light coming on.

If I understand correctly from the replies on the newb section that this is the emissions light, is that correct?

(am I also right in assuming the red light with the car with spanner out of the top is the engine management system light?).

It comes on when idling (but not every time) then goes out when I pull off.

I need to carry out the paper clip test which I will do as soon as I get chance, and will post the codes here.

My question is, am I ok to drive her until I get chance to do the test? (I understand I need to get her sorted, I am just pushed for time with extra work comitments at the moment).

Any initial thoughts would be appreciated.

Just for the record, I contacted the previous owner, who had remarkably never had the fault.

Newbie Welcome Area / EMS Light

Hi there,

I am new to Omega ownage (is that even a word?).

Also a few years back I owned a 99' 2.0 GLS estate, which me and the wife loved and regretted seeling the second she drove off our drive.

I have owned 'Betty' my black 99' 2.0 CD for just 3 days, done aprox 150 miles in her, and am now getting the EMS light on on the dashboard when the car idles. When you pull off, it almost imediatly goes out.

I have contacted her previous owner who went to great pains to tell me he never had the problem, and the car was sold with no warranty.

Consulting the Vauxhall owners manual it says its only an issue if it stays on, is this correct?

I have heard talk of a paper clip test? what is this?

Hi guys,

I am looking to part with my 1999 2.0 16v CD finished in Nova black metalic (I believe) with black velour interior.

It has 10 months MOT and wil have 6 months tax.

I have had the car aprox 2 months and love it to bits, the genuine reason I am selling it is I was going to be taking a job a lot closer to home so fuel would not be to much of an issue (I currently live in Staffordshire and comute to Nottingham), at the eleventh hour my current company in Nottingham came in with an offer I cant refuse, so unfortunatly I now need to move my Mig on and go back to a Diesel dog of some description.

I am having problems with photo bucket and my P.C, so if anyone is interested, PM me with e-mail address and I will e-mail pictures.

She has 3 known faults.

1, The central locking door solenoid is broken, so when the fob is used you have to unlock the drivers door with the key.

2, It has an air bag light on, I am told it is a 'squab' that is at fault (excuse my ignorance if I have got the terminology incorrect)

3, It has an oil leak, which is believed to be from the cam cover gasket - caused by the oil breathers being blocked. The parts for this are about £35 from Vauxhall.

Also on occasion she can have an uneven idle, but this clears itself.

She looks and drives great, with a few marks that you would expect from a car 11 years old.

Loads of receipts including the previous owner having a cam belt fitted on 98K (now done 110K).

I am looking in the region of £700 ono, or consider px for a Diesel car of aprox same size - Pug 406 etc.
