Still noise from rear after bearing change
« on: 24 May 2019, 06:15:11 »

I have what I have thought the bearing sound from the rear. It soun dlike it is on the left side of the car. It is quiet when turning right but makes noise going straight ahead and turning right.

I did change the bearing last year but the sound is there, did a new bearing change last week and the sound is still there.

Could it be the axle shafts joints? Car has seen a lot of high speed running on Autobahn before I got it and I drive it a lot on highways to at around 100 mph.

Huh? On my TD Estate it turned out to be the opposite to expectations. i.e. LH bearing failure was noisier when turning left!

My error, I didn't give the correct information.

Quiet turning right, noisy turning left and going straight.

Same as mine, and after changing the RH bearing it was still there. Changing the LH one cured it. Never had a rear bearing noise occur in that sense before, the bearing noise always increased on the loaded wheel in a turn on previous failures, and on the Omega must be a function of the suspension load distribution in a turn. The previous owner did change the right side after only 75000km, it has now gone 185000km.

It is hard to tell where the noise is coming from being an Estate it sound like it comes from the left side.

I'll change the other sides as well and hope for the best, the sound is annoying.

So was mine, and the other 3 I did. Estates are slightly noisier than equivalent saloons, as the huge rear space acts like a drum. But you don't notice it after a while.
