Think my power sounder is on its way
« on: 10 September 2014, 15:51:01 »

Hi all- 4 weeks after purchase I have noticed that on occasion, I get 4 beeps when I switch off the engine. Alarm isn't going off tho.
Read a great 'how to' remove the power sounder but noticed it was was for pre-facelift model
I intend removing it/disconnecting at some point but I have a 2001 CDX- is it in the same location as pre-facelift and is the procedure the same?
Help would be much appreciated  :o

Under the windscreen scuttle, drivers side. Just unplug, bag the plug and tape it up  :y
Do it now if you have got time bud.
A few members over the years have "put it on the list of things to do" and ended up with a burnt out car after reporting the same symptoms as you  ;)

yup .. 4 beeps is the device telling you the rechargeable batteries are flat(ish).. which they shouldn't be ..... they are charged by the main battery ... so ... flat rechargeables corrode and leak ... leaking battery fluid corrodes the contacts within the sounder ... leading to a direct short from the main battery feed that is supposed to charge them (which is unfused and directly connected !!) ... leads to a fire ... leads to a written-off Omega......:(

Do something about it ASAP ... disconnect/remove the faulty unit .. then consider replacement .. around £70 IIRC from VX

Only difference between PFL and FL for removal is the washer nozzles are in the scuttle, so don't be too keen when ripping the scuttle off ;D

Thanks folks - I will get it pulled out on Saturday morning  :y
I will then have to decide whether to replace it! Does anyone have the VX part number?
I am not in the trade unfortunately but £88 doesn't sound like a bad deal if its just a straight replacement!

For my 2003 3.2 it is 009194455.

However, be careful, my Vx dealer needed to check the chassis number to ensure that was the right part for my Omega. Apparently there is mine shown on the system as above, and there is also another for some other chassis numbers that costs £200+!!!!!! :o :o :o :o

I would think though that your 2.2 will need the same P/S as the one in most of our Omega's.  Just check though. :) :)

Or ask a nice person to replace/re solder in some new batteries so it works properly. Provided the old batteries haven't damaged the board of course.

(Awaits Dtm to bellow "throw it in the bin, its a fire risk" at me again ;D )

Replacing the batteries does not address the design floor associated with the unit  :y

So burn it, bury it, smash it up or at the very least, disconnect it
