Engine ? earth strap.
« on: 19 November 2016, 15:27:41 »

There is an earth strap on my car which runs from the bottom of the A/C compressor to the chassis.
The thread is a bit knackered where the strap bolts to the bottom of the compressor, so Im thinking of bolting it to somewhere else on the engine, such as one of the sump bolts.
I assume its an earth strap for the engine, rather than the compressor itself, so it shouldn't matter where on the engine that end is bolted to ?  :-\

That I'm assuming is a flat braided one,
There's a fat brown one, that goes from battery to one of the pas pump bolts, and from battery down to chassis rail.
Just tighten it up.

It is the flat braided one, and not the brown one. Cant tighten it up as the thread is fubared.
I either need to retap the thread, or attach it somewhere else.
If its exact location isn't critical then I plan on attaching it at another location on the engine.

Sump Bolt would probably work, assuming your taliking about the bolt that points up in to the block, but remember oil is an electrical insulator should it rattle loose or get messy down there, my preference would be somewhere clean on the block, or re tap the original thread you lazy sod.  ;D
