Hmmmm project...
« on: 13 June 2007, 15:28:09 »

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270129567738

Not new, but MOT and TAX, looks tidy, and is a cheap and easy peasy fix...

Might send him a silly-low offer and see if he takes it ;D

Got to be worth a try. It's about the right mileage for a fubared head gasket.

Head gasket has a little hole in it

That concerns me a little. How does he know how big the hole is? Has it been taken to bits?

+ £30 for this:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ROVER-400-414-416-95-on-16V-K-SERIES-HEAD-GASKET-SET_W0QQitemZ110137291264QQihZ001QQcategoryZ10414QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

And another £20 for fluids.

And maybe a few pennies on paint to sort out that rear wing.

£150 to fix... Stick it up for sale at £600 on autotrader - £450 profit...

HG is probably just Fubar'd Kevin, and he's saying "little hole" to try and make out the HG damage is minimal.

A blown HG is a blown HG, though!!

Ok, to maximise profit - maybe I'd spend another tenner on a new cambelt, just to be nice to the new owners ;D

I don't fancy towing this home, and to pay for recovery costs is not viable on this type of car.

I reckon I could do a simple HG change on one of these VERY quickly now, I've done a lot..

I'd probably take my mate Markie down there with me in the Elite... change the HG on the side of the road opposite the guys house to take the P*ss, and then drive it away ;D

You're right. I was just being cynical  ::)

I'd budget for a new set of long bolts for the head too. I doubt very much that they are officially re-useable. Whether you can get away with it on a project car is another matter, of course!

Now, who's got a driveway near Northampton on which you could dump a project car?  ::) :-X

Haynes says you can re-use them if within a certain length.

Personally I think it's a no-no in terms of best practice, but for a cheap cheap project car...   ::)  ::)

Well.. if I could get a CHEAP CHEAP set of bolts, I'd do it, to be nice.

But, on my old "H" reg rustheap 214 SLi - I re-sed the head bolts, got well over 10,000 miles out of them before I scrapped the car
