Had a day off work so decided to deal with the occasionally sticking ignition barrel. Printed off the help guide, took it all apart fine, cleaned it and dealt with any issues and came to put it all back together again. The key goes in and out no problem. The issue is that the stop off pin is the wrong side of the stop off block, ie lined up with the channel, the lock is then locked and so I can't rotate it to get it the other side. If I take the pin out and try to realign it, I can't get it to the point where you can pop the pin in without the lock locking.

By the way, is the stop off pin sprung, if so, despite taking every care, it's done a ping ping f**k it without me even noticing.

This is my everyday car, so I'm in a bit of a spin.

Thanks

Anthony

Omega General Help / Non functioning aircon f/l V6
« on: 02 November 2012, 16:51:55 »
Everything works fine on the HVAC unit. The compressor doesn't clutch in. I had it regassed with no change so need a good fault finding procedure with voltages/resistances at relevant points to check through the system to identify the faulty component. It's currently depressurised so if the compressor is faulty I won't waste money or gas having it done twice.

Thanks

Omega General Help / 2.5 V6 estate rear suspension
« on: 29 October 2012, 08:27:25 »
My wife and daughter get travel sick when in the back of the car owing to its wallowy nature (and my need for enjoyment whilst driving). Any suggestions for firming up the rear springs and/or dampers. Both springs and dampers are currently fine although have done 137K.

It'll never tow as I removed the factory tow bar and its very very unlikely to be loaded anywhere near the rear axle payload. I don't want a silly drop nor a bone shaking ride. I've looked at changing to MV6 spec but drawn a blank but have also thought about saloon spec. Basically something firmer and possibly 10-20mm lower is the idea.

What would you suggest?

Thanks

Anthony

Omega General Help / Occasional non starter
« on: 21 September 2012, 08:29:53 »
My first post with a problem I've not seen an obvious answer to. The title says it all really. It's fine 99% of the time but now and again it turns over and just won't fire. No EML flashing, only code 31 when read off. No codes to read off when it does start.

Reading through stuff suggests crank sensor but I don't believe in changing things without proper evidence unless that's just the way it is with this fault.

Any other ideas gratefully received.

Newbie Welcome Area / Introduction

I've been popping back and forth here since buying my omega last April. Now it's started to misbehave a bit I thought it was a good idea to join to share ideas.

I have a very late 2.5 V6 manual estate with 136K which cost me less than the scrap value of the P38 Range Rover I had before it. I've replaced the diff with a diesel one which has improved the fuel consumption and will pop an M tec chip in it to recover the performance such as it is.

It's a mouldy old thing both figuratively and in reality but all the family love it. I'm sure it lived under trees and near water for a lot of its life but little by little I'm making it look half decent.

My daughter calls it Herman the Sherman as it's a bit of an old tank. We did have a good laugh at the irony.
