last days of omega ownership i think a sad day
« on: 23 March 2015, 19:29:25 »

so there I was doing about 50 when the backend locked up [nice blacklines] then a banging and I stopped.a quick look and a broken propshaft [not to bad eh?].called aa the man  who tried to tow it to find the axel locked up[getting worse ]2hrs later[worser] a recovery truck got me home.had a look and the engine  wont turn over either. so I have a locked axel that seized the engine .or a knacked engine  that broke the axel.either way its had its day as i cant see a way forward
she was a 2.5 diesel on a p plate with 275000 on the clock and the mot is up in may
been  a very good car with no big issues  and has never broke  down before  in 8 years
going to have a few more cans and try not to think how iam getting  to work tomorrow.
ta and goodbye

Sounds like it could have been a lot worse and you're lucky that you were able to walk away!  :y

As I've said before, the BMW lump is a likeable lump, but when it gives up, it does so spectacularly.

Um.... should it be of interest - in a matter of a couple of weeks my 1996 V6 is being brought back to the roads (pending MoT), thus replacing my FL 2.5TD Turbo Weasel. It has 140k on the clock. Among its notable features are an MoT, and a fully working diff and gearbox... if you intended on keeping your Omega, which it would of course be preferable to, feel free to pop me a pm....  ::)

Sorry to hear this R1.

Can I just clarify what happened though. . . Was it the diff that locked and stopped the prop from turning? Or drive shafts locked and stopped the prop? Sorry just trying to understand what happened  :)

sorry don't know
think the engine seized that locked and the dif then jammed and broke  the drive being the weakest part

Cool. I would say with the old girl you'd have two options - strip the drivetrain out and fit in yours, or keep the Turbo Weasel as your new motor, but just give a thorough going over (I have a list of faults as long as your arm that need sorting, but the point is the engine and box and diff are all good and solid) Speak soon, always happy to help a fellow OOFer where possible  :)

well day off work today and a knock on the door and mr scrap metal man asks me if if I want him to take my old car away
how much says I
50 quid
I say no
he says 70
i say give me 150 its yours
he says scrap price is down that's all he can offer
I say
bye bye

2 hours later hes back
does it run he says
no theres no battery and a few parts missing
how much will you take for it
I told you 150
il give you a ton
make it 120 and you have a deal
we shake hands
he had a flatbed transit with a winch that couldn't pull it on took about a hour to load it and the transit was well sitting down and chucked out lots of black smoke as he pulled away.
